p sage- Thanks for stopping by! I am feeling a little better with some sleep behind me! Its true-for a while I painted "direct" and now I am starting to keep a more thought out process going. Thanks for the kind words! I will swing by your book!
MatejaPetkovic- THANK YOU! I have many questions about portraits. I will PM you or hit up your thread. Thanks for stopping by!
Mischeviouslittleelf- Thank you-that means a lot coming from you! I hope it pays off one day.
Another few sketchbook pages. I usually draw more than I post. I only scan the halfway decent shit. Went to the park yesterday found my favorite tree and some folks to draw.
That's the Eastgate clock in Chester (UK) right!?
Good stuff, I live in Chester!
Really good drawings, especially your life drawing, excellent sense of form.
Callumbo- Thanks mate! Chester had to be one of my favorite towns if not my#1. What a great dynamic town! I was ashamed to only spend a half day there. Next time I'm in the UK I will stay longer. I hope you get out to draw the INCREDIBLE architecture every once and a while! Thanks for stopping by!
Here is a little collection of some sketches from todays Gesture class. I get torn between wanting to focus on form and the funs and just getting the proportions halfway working. The proportions will pay off and I am getting a lot better. I have found that grouping abstract shapes of the body and comparing them helps the most. Then adding really rough groupings of tone help more. Just have to keep working on the process!
loved the plane based studies...great stuff...

Thanks for all the replies guys!
vinay vikram singh-I will work on more concept stuff soon! I kinda go back and forth. Come back soon!
Bushido-Thank you for stopping by! It means a lot. I Love your work!
jatherip- Thanks pal! I will definitely keep posting! Stay tuned!
here is a real quick speed paint I did today. Poking fun at the classic "This is not a pipe" painting by René François Ghislain Magritte. Im not a particular fan of the movement he was apart of. I dont smoke my pipe often. But it smells so good. I have to admit that Norman Rockwell has peer pressured me into smoking one! haha!
p sage-Thanks again for the support! You ROCK!
Well, my friend from Germany left so now I dont really have many friends again. It sucks. But winter is coming and I need to get shit done around the house. Generally- there are just piles of work to around. My car is a wreck, my laundry bin is full (underwear drawer is empty), dishes piled in the sink, bathroom is gruby, and the weeds are winning in my garden. Shits a mess folks. So I got some of that shit done today and also got to spend some intamate time with my ballerina painting. It has a LOOONG way to go. Im not even half way. I want some serious feedback is anyone is interested.
I also re-arranged my "studio" for you all to see.
I'm going to the gym-I will do a speed paint tonight.
Here is a quick speed paint/study after. There is a master painter named Clyde Aspevig. He is amazing. I recommend checking his work out. Apparently he is kinda a butt head but thats the price to pay for being that good.
I feel I am starting to get a handle on the brush set I have. Going to keep practicing this digi work.
Wow man, you work really hard and it's paying off.. I really like how the ballerina painting is going and your aircraft concepts are really cool

Love that speedpaint? About that ballerina, i think you need to watch out what her right deltoid is doing. THings seem to be turning in the wrong direction there. And maybe toss a tad more colour around in the skin? Not an expert on this myself, so take my words with the necessary discretion.
Quike Garcia- Thanks for the kind comments! They say the hardwork pays off. Just crossing my fingers and running up the hill. I need to do more air plane stuff I guess-people seem to like those! Thanks!
walnut-Glad to see you again! There are some value problems with that deltoid area that I havent really resolved. I think it will fix what you noticed!
The colors are all messed up. I am confused as to what temperature I want things. If I want a cool light- thus making the skin cooler and shadows warmer and more saturated. Everything is in its own temperature and saturation scale right now so it looks really fake. I will get on it though. FInding the problem is step one! Thanks for your honesty-you ROCK!
Had work and some other crap to do today. I managed to sketch for a while and do a quick speed portrait. This was the second time I have drawn from life with my tablet. I really enjoyed it and I think I came close to a likeness. The colors are whack. Anyway. I need to work on something longer for you guys. These speedies must be getting boring!
Going to the river tomorrow. I will work on the Ballerina more soon.
Wow!!! Awasome!! I love your works!!
Born to be wild!
I feel so loved!
Sorry for being so slow in any update again!
Rustveld-Thank you! I have been drawing in my sketchbook but its a pain to scan. I will post more soon though!
RokasButkys-Thank you! I kinda just messed it all up but I swear it will be better than before! Stay tuned
jungle_julia-Thank you I really appreciate that!
I am totally on a "The Strokes" kick. I just found them and am just amazed. So damned good. Check them out if you have never heard them!
before and after
Now on to business! I had a bit of a break down the other day. I was staring at the painting and trying to avoid the fact that my values were all fucked and my colors in-cohesive. But I manned up, tugged on my chest hair and painted over the whole thing in tones. NOW- with the tonal scale working MUCH better I can start throwing color down. Here is a comparison between the before and after tonal adjustment. So more work to be done here but it should go smoother now that I have a process and some good tones. I will fix the face as her nose is all messed up. Also the ground behind her is totally unlevel...silly drawing problems.
-some silly fact as to why I am so concerned with the tone. The human eye can see value MUCH better than color. That is why having the value right is far more important than color. So you should be worried about tone too.
Also-I finished up and mailed my Glacier Park painting. Here is the final photo you will see. A big version and a small one. Lets hope it sells!
Ain't nobody going to call you lazy Ken. Well done having the attitude to do a paint over and I love that I got some tips about value out of it. Glacier Park is beautiful.
jigje-Thanks for the comments man! There is always drawing to be done! Glad I could help a bit.
So my photoshop has been crashing a lot lately. Like...very often. I just did a system restore so that might have had something to do with it. I re-installed it and FINALLY had the chance to actually do a speedie with out losing it halfway through. I got inspired by the domo arigato for an industrial speedie...
Photoshop is working like a champ again! So here is another speedy. I took a photo of myself and did a paint over. Gave me some cool armor, a cool gun, and some action. I am trying to play more with edges and textures. I need to push it more but, I'm happy to have more going on in this one.
your work is amazing seriously dude!!!!! very inspiring, wish i should have taken up art classes instead of studying graphic design.
sala leota-Thank you! Graphic design is still very important. Just draw a lot. Draw draw draw! Its never too late. Just do what you love!
Here is a quick update from my real sketchbook. I piled them all together for your easy viewing and my easy posting! I added some "commentary" to the drawings. The mall is such a vibrant place to draw people. So many bizarre people doing and eating bizarre things! I saw a real life confederate pirate with a cane on a date with a giant lady. Who knows!?
I will do another speedie tonight most likely and tomorrow will be a ballerina day. Im off to the gym now!
palladium- Thanks Bro! I agree with you 100% problem is I only have HB pencils right now! I feel like I am running a race on my hands instead of my feet. I have a big art material purchase coming up and maybe with a few 4B and 6Bs I will be back in buzinaz! Thanks for coming by!
Here is a WIP for Halloween. Idk if I will make it into a card or not but I am having fun with it so far. Pretty cliche... oh well. More airplanes on the way and some traditional painting. sleep time for me!
Jabo-Thanks mate! I am glad you enjoyed it.
I will be working on more coast paintings.
Those ones have been left in the dust
but I will be heading back soon to reap
what I can. My boss is interested in buying
some coast paintings so I will have to do
more! Come back soon!
RokasButkys- Thank you! My pencil style seems
to be off and on. I am not sure what I want
right now. I just draw. Glad you like it though!
I really want to make a good one out of this
witch so some crit would be appreciated!
Thanks for the support!
So I went and did more hiking today. It was
great-there is this canyon about an hour away
with some really impressive waterfalls and
boulders. I will go do some painting out there
before too long. Fuckin winter is on its way...
I worked on the Ballerina but didn't take any
photos. Ill save that for tomorrow.
Here are some planes I want you fellas to pick
one out[ for me to work on more. Maybe make
a whole picture out of it! My personal fav. is 6.
Also the witch with abit more flesh and some
more green. I will be adjusting the color more
as I go on... C+C much appreciated!
Also-is the above formatting annoying?
No replies makes me sad
Anyway-I have been busy. Here is another dump
of sketchbook pages for you all. Also an update
on the Ballerina. I have a long way to go yet but
some color has helped. Crits would be REAL nice!
I like whats u have going with ur sketches. U managed to capture the whole pose with just simple shapes and distinct shading. Very nice! For ur ballerina painting, i feel you need a soft diffuse light coming from the left to gently illuminate the left side of (her right side) of the figure. And i feel the face is abit too saturated? But it is really coming along well. Keep it coming !
