Hey folks. I'm erdbeerfeldheld, an autodidact trying to improve my art in every way I can. I only got serious about art a few years back so I have a loooooooooong way to go ... It'd be great if you guys could help me and give me some much-needed critique on my art =) For now I'm aiming to improve my painting technique and my drawing/painting speed.
Some art below to show you where I'm standing now. Expect new stuff tomorrow!

AustenFM: Thanks so much for your comment! It's very easy to get discouraged by all the great artists here so this means much to me =)
Today's sketches: 60 second drawings from posemaniacs and some Bammes and life studies. Also tried out my new oil based coloured pencils =) Pencil drawings were done without erasing.
And some new stuff: Some unripe cherries in a plastic bag and an unfinished selfie. Why yes, I like using crazy colours =P
A Caravaggio study ... God I hate it with the passion of a million burning suns. I think I'll never master painting =/
Today's practice: An Okuribito study (awesome movie btw, everyone should go see it) and a study of a photo I took at Byodouin.
Thanks for visiting my SB... I'll update soon
Well well!... What a nice SB you have! your style is strong, also lovely the way you mix colors is interesting and suits your way of drawing.
I liked the first picture, the one featuring the hands... is so expressive. I wish I could do something like that. I also like the picture of the man playing the cello, is so peaceful...

Nice stuff so far! I really love the colours and style of the very first one. I also dig the bag of cherries: the dynamic lines really convey a crinkled produce bag, even without the reflections. Hope to see more!
Your colorwork looks so good! I'd suggest not letting the colours dessaturate so much. At the moment, they all look kind of dull, especially the last two ones. It's a problem that I also have, maybe that's why it has caught my attention.
Try to use stronger greens and blues in the mid-tones. If you haven't done it yet, take a look at Prometheus/ANJ rendering tutorial, it's really useful.
Miato: Thanks for your kind words! I've been feeling quite down about my art recently so that means a lot.
Sekino: Thank you~ Drawing the cherries was loads of fun =)
DStrax: Thanks! Will do
Abrodos: Thanks a lot for the critique and the link to the tutorial! I'll try to consider that in my next painting^^
Mhmmm, raspberry brownies ... and a Dürer study.
I really like the characters in your first post. This image is quite beautiful, if roughly done. The kind of thing that gets in my memory for some reason.
Your studies are very good too. You do the posemaniacs studies the way I should start doing them, applying the manikin knowledge. Where did you learn that manikin? It's not the Loomis one.
You say you have a long way to go, yet you're not a beginner, you're well on your way. Where do you expect to get at?
Guess who's back ... First one is a Dürer study, second a drawing of my shoe, some model from a magazine and a fanart.
@ Leonor: Thanks =) I don't remember where I picked that mannequin up ... Maybe it was Bammes?? I haven't studied Loomis yet so it can't be that one ... Sorry^^ Where I want to get at? Catch up with my idols first and then surpass them of course! I want to be able to make a living with my art =)
Today's practice. Reffed from some photos on finart.sk
Good work. I completely understand what you mean when you say you'll never master painting.
By the time you do, you won't care. It won't be about the painting anymore, but the story you're trying to tell.
A horrible, horrible landscape speedpaint from a photograph I took and the finished version of the self portrait from June. Practice feels like such a chore these days ... I don't really enjoy art that much atm but I shan't slack.
Anatomy practice, a quickie of a friend's RPG character and a portrait wip ... Critiques and opinions greatly appreciated!!
@ Fast Art: Vielen Dank für die Sternchen =) Werde mich revanchieren~
A Caravaggio study before sleep. I have the feeling something is wrong with my painting process =( I always end up floundering when it's about half finished and then take ages to finish. Grr.
I really like those Caravaggio studies, I just in think in the last one the
the highlights could be a little more yellowish, to look more natural.
But keep it up and you won't have to worry about not mastering it ^^
ich glaub ich kenn deine Sachen von Mexx *lach*
@pinkchunky: Thank you~ I'll watch out for that in my next painting!
A selfie ... maybe two hours or so? Doesn't look like me at all but I'm getting the hang of lineless painting ... I think.
no pain no gain ;D thats awesome thanks for checking by, you studies are stunning. how much time do you usually spend on them? the valuerange on the sp is a bit short i think, but youre on the right way
@ jatherip: Thanks man =) Very kind of you to return the favour! You're right on the sp I only noticed that after finishing so I let it be ... ^^'' Which study do you mean? Usually I do them just for warmup, so maybe 1h~ for each? The Sargent and Dürer studies took longer though, several hours ... And the latest Caravaggio was 30 min I think.
Anatomy practice, and a failsauce portrait of my bro. He's the worst model ever =< He was like "OK I'll sit for ya" and then after 10 min "Man I'm tired ..." *lies down on my bed and falls asleep*
Another (unfinished) sp, it sucks slightly less than the last pencil drawing ...
Really great stuff. All of your studies are really good. I like how you have a variety of body types. You digital painting is really coming along. Keep it up.
I really like the last self portrait, especially the lighting and the texture
you're really good with pencils!
@pinkchunky: Thanks a lot =)
I've realized I'm missing a lot of the basics of drawing/painting ... up till now I've mostly done outline only drawings. Maybe that is why I have so much difficulty with painting??
Anyways here are some pencil drawings ... Last one is another Sargent study. Crits much appreciated!

I should probably do more full body ^^;
First one is a speedie (1 1/2 h) portrait of a friend of mine and the other one yet another sp.
