Hey everyone. I promised myself that if i got into the Cleveland Institute of Art that I would start another sketchbook, and if i didn't then i wouldn't because i just wouldn't feel worthy. Well I got the acceptance letter this morning, so that gives me the go ahead to begin embarrassing myself! i will post the stuff i do during the day, whatever that may be, probably all spring and summer until i ship out and start getting my ass kicked! YES!
My favorite artists are....James Kei, Kieran Yanner, Daarken, Coro, Wes Burt, Marko Djurdjevic, Justin Sweet, algenpfleger, Daniel C, Archipelago, Dile, Mr. Blonde, MindCandyMan, dan milligan, noxizmad, shawn barber....and the greats like Caravaggio, Sargent, as well as all the ninja turtles.
I study out of bridgeman, Loomis, Hogarth, Richer, comics, some various others and porn.

butts and things from reference and some imagination faces and things
the only thing i managed to draw today that i think it worth posting...bit of an off day, not a lot of confidence.
Blame it on the bunny.
Scetchbook: View the exhibitionist's stuff.
zaorr...thanks for posting who could win a rabbit?
here are some studiez and some from imagination. i blow at hands so ive been studying them a lot.
i like the bunny painting, creepy and cool. for the shadow side, you might want to try using some pink in there as reflected light, could make the painting pop out a little more. your studies are amazing, very lively and real.
oh, and congrats on your acceptance letter, that's a fine school you got into!
You really do draw butts well. I'm guessing not a boob guy then.
Everyone has off days(sometime I feel like mine outnumber my good ones) but on this one http://www.conceptart.org/forums/att...1&d=1236915871 watch the direction of your lines when you shade. Right now the way the strokes on your shading run they flatten the figure. Also the arm over the chair looks like it should have some foreshortening happening, but she could have just been posed strangely so I'm not sure on that one.
Nice sketchbook. Keep it up. Love the butts
"This planet has - or rather had - a problem, which was this: most of the people on it were unhappy for pretty much of the time. Many solutions were suggested for this problem, but most of these were largely concerned with the movements of small green pieces of paper, which is odd because on the whole it wasn't the small green pieces of paper that were unhappy." -Douglas Adams
My goal: To get good enough to post in the Finally Finished Forum.
joe824: thanks man! i have been trying to use some cooler colors but to no real success. this will probably be a work in progress for a long long time.
myorangehat: yeah i know what you are saying there, i just wasnt paying much attention i suppose. i did this from a photo and pretty much half assed it which i do with most things i do from photos, its a pain in the ass for me really haha. and thanks about the butts, i butts. butts butts butts.
well i have recently bought a few of these online videos from mb and they are so awesome. i bought a few of the coro ones, one of whit brachnas, james kei's, and some others and i think i learned a lot just from hearing those dudes talk. one of the key things i liked the most was coro saying something like..."i judge an artist by how good he draws hands and heads"...therefore im going to work on those all summer before school starts....and whit brachna saying something like "i never tried to make up my own style, i just want to make a successful image." and ive taken that to heart too. i feel a lot more free in my drawing lately because of that, im just trying to make things look good! i want to draw good, thats all i effing want. ef. fuck. ok.
both done from photos, the second im not really concintrating on likeness, i suck at likeness, just trying to make it look good. i still have a long way to go on these.
Excellent studies here man. I definitely wouldn't mind seeing some of your finished work. All looks pretty damn good here though. Great pencil work.
dwardo: thanks for your comment those are the way the hands were drawn in the book I have, I wasn't being lazy! haha
nurraymjo: thanks a lot for responding man. I should probably try finishing something...haha.
larger update tomorrow at some point.
Nice pencil rendering. I can feel the characters rising out of the page.
On your digitals--although I don't know what you're referencing--I believe the darks are too dark. In post #15, for example, the guy's skin in the shadow area is almost black. Unless the situation is very dark, or if there is only one light source, the shadows of skin usually do not approach that value. Check out some of Sargent's paintings for example.
Ben_Olson wow, thanks man! :d
YihyoungLi Thanks for commenting! On that #15 face painting I was actually keeping in mind a painting by mr blonde/whit brachna which has a very extreme top lighting, it was just a little doodle though, i need to get something finished...
here are a few things before i leave for the weekend. i just bought the oil painting demo with coro and, as always with these downloads, i was inspired for hours and learned some quick little tricks and things to keep in mind that i feel helped me get a little bit better.
some generic faces and a thumbnail for something i want to feneesh.
yo pawl! you're doing pretty great with anathomy. now at least i feel motivated that i have to study some btw thx for your feedback on my sB. i'll make sure to check yours often
it's not my place (in the 9 to 5 world)
thanks pablo dude
its been a long time hopefully ive gotten somewhat better.
here are some doodlie dooz.
works in progress for today
k heres more progress on it
Congrats on getting into CIA, I hope you like it! On your work, I really love your studies. Keep doing them, since your hands seem like they are getting stronger and stronger. As for your digital work, I feel it's getting a little dirty looking. I think your problem may be that you shouldn't be working with black to shade, but use more darker colors to make the planes turn. I hope that makes sense.
majortom thanks for the reply first of all man, im glad your liking my hands. i still think they are shit haha. yeah i need to figure out this photoshop thing. ive realized that i have no idea how to paint so im just sort of winging it. ill try not using black i think thats a good start.
daniel c! (?) Thanks for stopping by. I woke up today at like 4 pm from a sickly feverish nap and swore I was dreamed that you commented on my sketchbook and that it wasnt real. Thanks a lot for dropping by, i will keep working! every day until i die.
ok so ifigured out my scanner problems so i can scan things now. heres s pretty big load of doodles from my sketchbook that i have been working on. wow i should really do actual art school work.
great start here. if you bust ass, you're going to fly high.
Thanks dude. And thanks for your CIA insight of course. Thats nuts that you were next to wes burt, crazy shiot. But yeah, I have a lot to think about. Studying abroad does sound amazing, and I really like a lot of people here. If I can find a way to work on things I need to work on and get my school stuff done, I think I will stay. If not, and I dont want to be terrified of the massive debt after I graduate, I might go. Sorry I'm ranting I dont want to bore you or anyone haha. I just need to DRAW really. all it comes down to. AHHHG! but ps yeah, iMac. need one. i them.
heres a small update on this side view of this character im doing. watching mr delicious's (spelling ?) live show the other night really got me better somehow i think, but stil not near finishing. i havent concentrated at all on the legs so dont give me shit for that. Im trying to post every night so I'm going to post a lot of shit, all the time, most likely.
here are 2 more before i sleep. then go to class all day and do stupid art school dumb things. and then back to drawing and photoshop cool real things weeee. a green thing and a beginning of a girl. sorry i will do more finished things this weekend, i cant wait.
the green thing is just a practice shading thing.
