They are not technically all "hard" media, but all the brushes with real in front of their name are listed in the manual under hard media, and all can use the new hard media brush settings regarding tilt.
In Windows, if we inadvertently hit the Alt key first, the menu in the upper left corner of the screen, above the main menu bar is accessed. Then we need to hit the ESC key a couple of times and try again.
Solution is to always hold down the Spacebar first, then also hold down the Alt key and the Rotate Page tool is activated.
Just installed Painter 11 on my laptop as a test. This behaviour happens here too on a Windows XP machine this time with an Intuos 3 tablet attached. It also happens on my desktop in Painter X.... strange... I don't remember this problem before.
One other point.... hitting or holding down the ALT key on it's own while using the brush activates the colour picker while suppressing the normal Windows behaviour of menu activation... as it should. I'm not sure whether the fault with this lies with Corel, Microsoft or Wacom... but it's happening to me on 2 separate machines, running both XP and Vista and using both Painter X and Painter 11, with both Intuos 3 and Intuos 4 tablets. They only thing the machines have in common is the latest Wacom drivers installed.

It's very curious that it happens on both machines with different versions. Have you ever had it working? There's always the keyboard shortcut - E - I suppose.
I have had it working in the past.... don't ask when though Before Painter 11 (which I only got last night), and before I got my Intuos 4.... so at some point it was working on Painter X using Intuos 3.
I can't get the suspicion out my head that it's something related to recent Wacom drivers. After all it's those that are incapable of reading SPACE+ALT and only give you the option of ALT+SPACE. I wish the integration between these two new products was a bit tighter.
Using 6.1.1-3 btw.
Sounds like, for now, the best option, as Joe says, is the E key to activate the Rotate Page tool, then the B key to go back to painting.
I'll do a check with my intuos4 to see if this is the same problem. I usually use the e and b key on the touchring for rotation.
Confirmed, it's because the driver as you stated will not take Spacebar+Alt in that order only Alt+Spacebar.
So I guess you'll have to use the suggested work-around unless Wacom wants to fix that.

Cheers john for that list, the Hard media brushes, after some doodling, are actually pretty good, the pencil variants especially, and the acrylic brushes are also great!
I personally use my rotate tool as 'R' but using Space, then Alt is really intuitive, not sure why it doesn't work for you mate.
Going back to the update, noticed something new, i use a cintiq 21ux, and was annoying that each time i wanted to open a new file, with one already open, the works space moved, and some times the brush panels dissapeared, dont know if it crashed because of the multiple monitors i have, the envidia card or windows.
But with the new patch the annoying thing fade away, now i can open files without worriyng out like past days i had to close it or minimize it to avoid this crashing.
It seems another problem solved.
There are no such things as bad art, just tight deadlines.
Anyone check painter 11 lately to see if the cpu bug has been fixed? corel's offering some nice deals to try and sell it, however, if this bug is still occurring then it'd be best to tough it out and wait after I get my new box if it's just gonna keep hitting my cpu for 50% now.
I'm afraid not. It wasn't addressed in the first patch and there have been no new ones.
Still no Painter 11 Update? I remember trying the Markers and Pencils in the demo and was impressed. I refused to buy it then because I still felt it should have been held in development a while longer before being released as the next version. Now I'm working on a project that requires the use of a good marker variant....it's Sept. 10th already.....still no Painter 11 Update?!?!?! Maybe I should go play with the Painter X markers ONE - MORE - TIME.
Hey MAC people, any of the above issues exist on your rigs in Painter 11? I see the Snow Leopard people are psyched about the speed increase.......

I'd suggest playing with digital watercolours instead of painter-x markers
because the "new" marker category is a modified digital watercolour brushset.
I'm on a Mac Pro, still running 10.1, and not in a hurry to upgrade since Corel still hasn't posted a Mac fix for 11 (though one has been out for Windows for four months). I'd like to hear if the bugs exist on the Mac version of Painter 11.
There's a color space problem.
The infamous "Error 18" or "Error 20"
Also the is a bug I mentioned http://www.conceptart.org/forums/sho...d.php?t=167295 which is retarded. It's about as obnoxious as the missing strokes bug for me.

Yep, I have 11 just sitting there and waiting to go but until Corel fix the bug that means one of my cores is at a solid 100% then I can't possibly use it. Exactly the same thing happened in v8 and this was fixed via a patch so, pretty please, Corel, with sugar on top, fix the bug.
I´ve found this on CGTalk about the "reinstall from original source" error on 11.
You can avoid the repeated re-entry-of-the-serial aggravation by going into your root/Library/preferences folder and duplicating the "nTitles Product Licenses IV" file, AFTER you have painter running properly. When you switch to rosetta and relaunch, painter changes this file which triggers the serial entry prompt. So just delete the nTitles file, delete the "copy" text in the duplicate's name and painter will launch normally.
It's a good idea to keep a master backup of that nTitles file somewhere safe and always use a copy.
Note; this is for Painter X. I don't know if they changed this with version 11, but it sounds like they did not.
Damn, every time this thread gets updated...I get excited thinking there is an actual update to fix the bugs in Painter 11 :/
Hello, I too, always hope some good news with this thread.
Today, French version has been released. Unfortunately, this version labelled 11.0.028 is still significantly slower on big files than X version.
Return to wait.
Edit : I'm on MacPro. I didn't notice any change with SnowLeopard, BTW

I installed the update for painter 11 and still have the same problem. The cut and paste or paste in place just doesnt work. also the brush selector sometimes disapears and the only way to get it back is to bring in a workspace from another source.
did you reset your painter's settings to default?
back up your current workspace/custom brushes/whatever, and than hold shift when starting painter.
several corel representatives suggested resetting painter settings after installing the patch, see painterfactory.com message board for details.
on the fourth day of glitchmas my painter™ gave to me
four random crashes, three broken brushes, two system hangups & one corrupted workspace
Do you have PS open at the same time as Painter?
