ROUND #156 :: Joan of ArcDESCRIPTION
Or Joan of Arc. Probably one of the most famous historical figures of all time, Joan really needs little introduction. But briefly: Joan of Arc was born a peasant girl in 1412 France and became a military leader who persuaded the King, Charles VII, she had divine right to expel the English from Northern France. After victories at Orleans and Patay she failed to take Paris and was captured by the Burgundians and sold to the English. She was tried for witchcraft and heresy, and supported by a tribunal of French Ecclesiastics who were in league with the English, she was burned at the stake in Rouen in 1431 aged just 19.
But for further information on her there is always Wikipedia:
One of the interesting things about Joan is we know so much about her, certainly after she came to the 'authorities' attention. In fact the whole of her trial is documented almost word for word. However, don't feel restricted to presenting her in medieval attire. Feel free to experiment with her outfit and time period but that is not a strict requirement. Interpret her as you will.

ooooh, I have a cool idea for this one ^^ I'll post some sketches tonight.
1. wanted to make it "revealing" but she gets more and more armor
gonna make thigh armor longer and do a nicer neck armor piece
2. this is probably what the composition will look like

Noo! I knew Joan of Arc was going to crop up but why oh why on the week when I have practically no time!
Will deffinately be keeping my nose in the door to see what the outcomes are like! Good luck everyone, make it a good one.
you would not be considered a fool to think it's space marine joan, but it's not - it's steam punk joan of arc. I figured that every man and his dog will produce a scantily clad joan so I'm going in the opposite direction with the least form fitting suit of armor known to man, it's practically a mechanical fat suit!
This is an initial sketch if anyone is keen to critique anatomy my ears are well and truly open, let me have it!
good topic choice Aly... I will see if time permits
must...resist...woman in armour.... must... GAH!
My favourite type of thing to draw also. I will try to find some time this week to get in on this one!
"I'm a damsel, I'm in distress, I can handle this! Have a nice day."
...Some sort of sketchbook...
My idea was a future Joan of Arc guided by the spirit of Joan of Arc of the past. I'm still working out the idea but here's a design sketch to start with - I'm glad I'm getting a little faster at this, maybe I'll actually finish this one *crossing fingers*
-I tried to incorporate the Joan of Arc cross as well as an overall larger cross into the design, I also gave her a fur hoodie that I thought could lightly hint at a "halo" as well as be a reference to Joan of Arc's beginnings as a simple farm girl (sheep's wool).

never thought making armor would be so much fun
Can I do a peice of her tied to the stake, about to be burned?
This week sounds fun, but my hols end on wednesday, so I doubt I'll finish.
uhm... just thought i'd point out... isn't she supposed to be pretending to be a boy... therefore being all in armour doesn't really go with shown cleavage...
i might join this one... sounds fun....
"Can't you hear it? The sound of beating drums, constant, never fading and yet always getting louder... as if getting closer and closer"
It's an open topic, so yes. Just be 'respectful'! As for cleavage, that too is up to the individual artist. Joan dressed as man probably for two reasons, practicality and to avoid male attention. In the end it was a contributing factor to her eventual execution.
she did not pretend to be a boy in the battle
only while she was crossing the country alone
plus she had her armor made custom for her
and yes i am aware that she didnt wear any panties or high heels
but i dare that to stop ME!
Can't wait to see all the entries coming in for this one- They all look great so far Exciiiting.

Here is my sketch, not sure if i'll make the deadline but will try, i'm going for the boyish look.
Holy freak - Joan of Arc!
I'll see if I can get into this one. She used to be my childhood role model when I was mad gung-ho into women who could fight.
I really like this topic. I've always had this weird vision of Joan. I hope I can get it right. I've had to start over already. Oh well. : ) I hope I get something done in time.

let's see if I can actually finish a chow again. :/ I'm taking a semi-classic approach with liberties in the armor but this being a first draft I still need to think about the 'divine' part.
