Good job on the toon studies, just watch the distance between the eyes like on the dog drawing.
Defiantly check out the Dobsky videos and watch your lines on things like the verticals on your 2 point angry box
Keep it up!
hello. i like your pencil sketches and muscle studies. however i want to point out the fact that drawing or painting a landscape is pretty easy to do if the composition works. i've seen that in your landscape drawings you tend to put your primal focal point in the center of the page and that is a dangerous approach. generally the center of the page confuses the eye and proportionally and compositionally-wise is to have a focal point that is not in the center nor in the extremities of the page. just wanted to point that out. best wishes and a lot of envy because i don't live in your contry yet. keep up the good work.
OMG duuude, great new work! Totally jealous of that pen lol, haha gotta go to some nice shop soon because I think you're right about the equipment there. The bed sketch is ROCKING, and those anatomy pictures as well keep it up man

Last 2 weeks OMG . So many assignments all done now. So heres a dump of the last week of assignments and class work. Learn a heap from the life and portrait (Heath Leadger) studies. Also i wanted to kil myself when i did the car in perspective. seriously, no one can enjoy that sh!*. But i watched some zen vids on youtube so at least my concept vehicles came out alright. I actually had a bit of fun with them. Definitely craving some digi work, maybe i'll do a tute on the weekend. Lol you can probably see how my work slacks off after the cartoon bird concepts. Oh yeah the birds were my favourite, spent a whole day researching and coming up with thumbs. so in love with toons. lastly some exercises on poses, turns out i'm doing some life drawing for the next 3 weks, nude people ftw, can't wait, i wonder how much i'm gunna learn. also i hope its not awkward, i've never don it before... ha ha.
teapo: thanks man, yeah perspectives a pain but vehicle concepts are soo kewl you guys.
adamsimons: yeah i actially watched the scott robertson vids at uni during my tube, my teacher wouldn't let me get a copy... looks like i'll have to buy it my self. but definitly worth it. that guy is boss at vehicle concepts.
JamesSimons: yeah even zen said in his vids how important its is for less experienced artists to have and understanding of as much as possible. even if you only like on genre of art, you should always be exploring.
Just call me bruce: thanks man, yeah the eye placement on toons can get a lil tricky.
DariusDs: ah our border patrol works over time ha ha. i kid i kid. hope you over soon, i love Aus. Also thank you very much for the tip. hopefully soon i'll start looking into composition, i'm terrible at it. mainly becasue i don't know much about it.
Evergrey: aw thanks! yeah quality equipment is like a revelation, you can't go back ha ha. totally worth it. I NEED that pen ha ha, maybe next week, with uni and living expenses its hard want that pen so badly.
Wow - liking your progress and studies.
Liking the rendering on the angry birds - also like the character you've given them and the still life.
I love the line work here. The shading on those pencils is top notch. The faces you did have great definition and strong values. Very nice! Keep up with the studies! They can help a ton.
Awesome work. Looks like u are hitting a lot of different stuff in terms of study which is great.
Looks like u are working from life/photos as well as from the imagination. I really dont have much to crit, this whole sketchbook looks like you are doing great study. Maybe take more of the pencil sketch stuff into photoshop and flesh it out with paint? But yeah, keep it up, and thanks for stopping by my sketchbook!

dude im diggin those angry birds keep up the studies
great pencils dude-- you're covering many subjects at a time which is nice. i so need to do more vehicle/industrial studies and designs of my own thx for reminding me with these updates !
good work on the studies! & good luck with the life drawing.
with your car studies and concepts, you might like to warm up with some stacks of boxes in perspective and drawing some ellipses on surfaces of the boxes.
it should help train your eyes to spot when lines that should be parallel, aren't. the ellipse practice will help with the toons as well.
and hopefully doing it as a warm up will keep it from being a chore.
also, who is zen?
masterpug: and more thanks
ArtZealot: I do hope to paint the chars eventually
prsnsweeney: thanks bra
teapo: ma pleasure bra
adamsimons: i said zen because i forgot his name ha ha i watched some Feng Zhu youtube vids. love that guy.

Been a while since i painted digitally, so did a warm up .
stretch the old tablet muscles.
Almost didn't see the guts in the astronaut, cool image. I also like how you;ve done the skeleton and then composed the image around it.
Also love your anatomy studies - love how detailed they are.

Hey Jeremy, it's looking good in your sketchbook. I like those rendered pencil studies you did, they're a real nice improvement. As for critiques I would say spend more time on the work, just put in the hours and afterwards apply it from imagination. Best of luck Mr. Swan
good work on the calender.
on your 20min figure it looks like you shrunk the lower half to fit it on the page.
i linked this harold speed bit awhile ago but i'll link it again.
"The lines of shading following a convenient parallel direction unless prominent forms demand otherwise" from the practice and science of drawing keep it in mind for your next session.
keep at it!
very nice studies mate!!! doing these cylinder studies can become very helpful after a while. Try more combinations of basic objects. Also keep up the value training in these basic ones. Dont let the black line to form the light side, suggest the outer side by contrast (for example put dark next to the light side(as dark as the line)-->the light will pop out.
keep up the good work
real sweet work as of late jeremy though i've seen you post some of these on facebook i'm going to praise them again lol really dig how the calendar poster turned out-- so legit, i swear i can see that on the back of a band tour t-shirt
keep it up!
dood, you need to post more often, love the graphic work on the calendar!
adamsimons: thx man
teapo: yey affirmation!

I think you could take your characters to another level if you did the design/composition then put some time into research/reference and then did your final render.
Also in a couple of your studies (the girl and the hand coming out of the sink) some of the colours are a bit muddy. you might think about mixing up working more opaquely and then go in more translucent. Just something to think about.
The orcs coming along nicely, not sure the kid wants to be there though
Keep at it!
good work the design work looks top notch.
what's the story with the character design, is it for school or apart of a personal project?
here's a link with good ref for front on poses and varied fashion http://www.hel-looks.com/.
