Hmm. I missed the usb post. Looks really good! I can't stand converting colours from life to digital for some reason, so I commend you. Look at the enviros though.... where is the focal point in most once again? And what's wrong with a square canvas? Just because its a landscape doesn't mean that the orientation has to match. How about a challenge: you do a landscape with a canvas of a 8 to 3 ratio vertical?
Pencils: avoid smudging too much as you tend to lose form that way. (absolutely freaky teeth set though and love the mushroom)
Wow your stuff looks amazing.
woah! Thanks everyone for your comments! im glad the first page is over, it was getting very slow to load with all the pictures, but very mutch appreciated!
sketchy Joel: Thanks alot, im glad u liked it!
Verehin Wow thanks man! I hope you will enjoy=)!
Eerin Thanks! they all dont come out good=), but im glad you like it anyway! I hope you will enjoy my future art !
Pixie Trick heh thanks, yeh it can be tricky, I think it can be hard, I really struggle with to see colors sometimes, like for example, if it is alot of warm colors, a cool color can be misstaken for like blue, thats what u would think, but in reality it can be very grey green or something, colors affect eachother so mutch its funny=).
Focal point is tricky, I need to think more about those.
yeh I dont think its anything wrong with square canvas but I think its more rare, havnt seen too many of them, thats maybe why I tend to have them to be more widescreenish or tall.
I will try your challange!=)
IanE Wow thanks alot! really thanks! im glad to see so many people enjoy following sketchbooks!, I will keep sharing I hope you will enjoy!
S.I.O.R Thanks alot! yeh its something I trying to work on, less digital more brushy=)
tandy1000 Thanks alot, yeh maybe I am, I do enjoy concept art alot=)
Drawings of my hand, trying to avoid drawing messy lines and stuff.
Weapon designs, just for fun, here again focusing on my lines, didnt have any erasor so kinda got forced to it :9
Tried to start an enviroment abit diffrently, they tend to lean abit more "colorfull" when I do so, not sure if liked this but it was made fairly fast, alot of indications.
This one was also started the same, basicly I started it with the blue/grey color you see in the background, and after I just take a dark color and a soft brush and just paint some crazy shapes, after that I just make shapes abit harder towards the foreground and darker with whatever brush i like not as soft, it sort of creates a atmosphere perspective to work from, than u can add details, roads and stuff, its quite fun.
Anway these are from yesterday, Maybe I will have time for another update tonight
Eerin Thanks alot! yeh im not sure how that weapon would work=), probably some magic stuff haha.
Teundeboer Cheers thanks! I will try to keep them up=)!
Abit late, but better late than never, I have had a great friday and saturday, here is some of the work I have done during them, they all just for practice.
The grass became abit too simple and tall in this one, its not really suppose
to be viewed this large, or rather I might just have done the person small:9
Forgotted to post this one.
Uhm yeh, the anatomy sucks but I gotta start somewhere right? im exited and I really enjoy study it, it will become better soon I hope=9, and I do
enjoy doing characters even if they arent the best.
Just a drawing of spongebob while watching the show today, not perfect happy with it, but meh, stuff that happens.
random stuff from my crazy mind.

Pixie Trick; Spongebob yes! my favorite show! im glad you liked the enviroments!
Verehin: cheers thank you! im glad you liked them!
Eerin: woah im glad I could inspire you! thanks alot! I hope you had a good time doing it!
Time for something new right, a new update.
Been doing a mix of stuff this time.
Uhm yeh did this one today, took just some hour to do, I still think I could
have pushed those mountains away abit more. but anyway it was super fun to do.
This is the thumbnail of the picture above, not really the same but yeh, it
was just a quick start a "plan".
I decided to try make a 3d model, I learned you
could have different styles for the render in sketchup, which was like mega perfect, this is something I gonna start using, you basicly get a lineart, which I prefer over something with values.
This one was for Pixie Trick challange, I wasnt sure how to get the picture in right scale, but I wrote in 8 inches high and 3 wide=9, was experiement with
the smudge brush in it. tried to go abit crazy with the shapes, I enjoyed doing
the picture on this tall canvas! helped alot thanks!
Uhm yeh this one started out abit random, but I first I liked it, than I hated it,
than I hated it, than I slighty liked it, but meh I still hate it=9. abit too empty, didnt feel like adding something usefull ether.
This is just some study I decided to do when I was doing an enviroment, I
decided to find something I did not intend to add, by looking at pictures of
the subject (jungle) and pick an object and do some sort of study of it, simple
Here is another one, they are abit silly!=)
Todays update, decided to do a character, started out with black and white cause I suck at that, uhm yeh i still quite unfinish but yeh well.
the enviroment became quite shit, but if anything got reference picture of
house that looks like that, feel free to show me, been looking for them, saw
one on tv yesterday and felt like painting it
Wow, your environments are just amazing, and very inspirational! I would love to see your process, if you ever have the chance to record your work. Keep it coming!
wow, man your environments are so inspiring.
great use of colors and nice mood overall.
I'll definately be back for more! thanks for sharing.
wow great approach to your environments, almost makes me want to put my figure studies on hold for a bit to paint some landscapes, great colors!
"If you ever give your best... well give it better"-Maniac...
Nice to see the 8x3 one. It looks like you loosened up, a bit more abstract and just let your mind go a bit. The idea about adding an element to an image that you hadn't planned on is neat too. I love the shack in the rain. It looks so peaceful and the puddles make me want to splash in them.
Diverse Thanks alot im glad you liked them!, I will try to keep it up than=)
Pixie Trick Yo thanks alot! im glad you liked it, it helped me alot I think, In still not as "loose" as I should be, but its just something that gets better the more you draw, exploring the concepts sort of, and also study buildings designs and other stuff will help improving the amount of stuff u know in your brain sort of, like I have a tendecy to draw same trees because I dont know how the design of other trees, so if you study it you will have a wider range of trees to paintXD.
localfatheaded Thanks you!, yeh I know the feeling thats why I do
characters here and there too, often after being inspired by other artists!
monotony Cheers thank you, im glad they inspire!=) I hope to see you
back than! =)
Cacodaemonia Thanks alot! im glad u liked them! I will try to record some work, I got it setup, but it will probably be later next month if so, I still dont have too mutch experience with painting enviroments myself=9
Yesterdays work, I was suppose to upload them than.
But I decided not too because they all had some big issues so I sort of tried
to fix most of them, They still got issues but I dont feel like spending too
mutch time on small enviroments, they are sort of just for practice, coming up with new stuff, design and yeh whatever=9.
A jungle piece, tried to go little crazy with the shapes, you can see I used the
smudge brush which I sort of fallen in love with recently, you can see it easily to the left of the picture, basicly take a brush that has
some random pattern or whatever u desire, paint in on a new layer, than smudge it, but its good to leave hard edges in it to keep in intressting.
Enviroment from photo, I hate the look of these, basicly I took a photo not far from home, and decided to do a small enviroment practice out of it.
It got the same color/sky and features like grass and trees as the real life photo, but I changed the location, but yeh it just doesnt look
that good in my eyes, the colors were rather desaturated compared to what I normally use.
Not crazy about this one, tilted the horizontal, but its so hidden in mist so the
picture just looks wrongXD.
This new set looks great. I like the addition of the small figures and campfire, to sort of gives a size reference. The atmosphere of the third one is especially gorgeous, and I'm really intrigued by the glowing figures in the last two.
In the first one, I think maybe the underside of the log/vine should have more reflect light on it from the stream. And in the third image, the highest overhang seems too thin. It doesn't seem realistic that it would still be attached to the hill, hehe.
Keep it coming!
I have to subscribe to this, It's great to read about your process on environment. Looking forward to your later tutorials, as I would greatly need them on my environmental conquests.
Hi UnidColor, cool sketchbook - I love the environments, especially as you have a great variety of settings and ideas for them!!
I'm looking forward to a process too! I'm not sure I would get toooo attached to smudgie brush if I were you. Too much of a good thing yada yada... And just think of all the canvases you could have. Round, hexagonal, irregular quadrilateral, snake shaped.....fun, fun, fun!! hehe
...so, some crits if you want them....
#1: I think the foreshortening on the closest tree could be looked at . It looks like you wanted it to be coming more towards the viewer than it currently looks like (from the shape) and the curve of the vines/moss aren't agreeing with that. Pushing some of the contrast around the rocks area might be a good idea too, to bring them out more. The rocks are reflected in the water, but the light area tree isn't. The chunk of tree trunk in the top left corner is a bit distracting too.
#2: It's quite nice. Some photos just don't make good painting practice.
#3: You have to watch details when shifting things. When you originally painted the image, the vines etc. were hanging down. Now they are floating out into the ether. You might want to watch the shapes of your outcrops too. They look remarkably alike and as cacodaemonia, a bit unrealistic. Doesn't mean you can't paint them, just depends on what you want.
#4: Nice. Umm... not sure what else to say.
#5: I love this one. Makes me happy inside for some glowy unknown reason. Some foreshortening issues on the closest tree again, but very nice.
MacTire Thanks alot, im glad you liked them!, yeh I try to keep myself not to draw too mutch of the same, its hard but yeh=), or it could be that I get bored of doing too mutch of the same:9
shardana Cheers! thanks, I will try to do that!
Cacodaemonia Thanks so mutch, im glad you liked them! yeh I agree
on what you pointed out, I think I went with too crazy shapes for the mountain painting, too thin=).
And yeh it probably would have more reflective light underneath on the jungle picture, will try to remember it and do it better next time!=).
Alm0st Cheers thanks so mutch!, I hope you will have a great time here! I will for sure share my experience on enviroments one day in a video, hopefully talking too ,on youtube=9!, but for now stick with Whit Brachna.
Its quite hard to do one tho, since I have learned from the internet, Whit Brachna and other ofcourse other people, hard to come up with something usefull to say I would imagen. theirforce I need more practice! yay!.
engelhardt Hello Engelhardt! thanks, im very glad you liked them!
Pixie Trick Thanks like always! I will try to remember and work on my issues for future paintings! I will probably reread everything in this sketchbook in a soon future, because my memory is like a goldfish, just to make sure I learn them and not repeat them too mutch hah.
But yeh, I will try to not overuse smudge, I do tho think it has its few good uses, i just need to experiement and find them.
1. yeh i do agree, I think the issue was I made the moss/viens with was applied last didnt follow the form perfectly, hard to explain, but its like it could fit a larger/wider tree underneath it, but yeh dont think it would hurt to have it abit larger there. yeh the reflection, I sort of decided to not draw it in there for some reason, I was aware of it but just not sure how it would show up, but I can see it clearly in my mind now, will try to improve on my future water!
2 yeh thats probably true
3 yeh just a image of fail =)
4 True that
5 Yeh I should practice forshortings more=)
mike butkus thanks im glad u liked them!
Thanks for your comments, anyway im off to bed now, very tired!, goodnight everyone
Todays quick stuff, created some random shape brush and "accidently" made these uhm space ships of some sorts, was very inspired from gnomons video "From Speedpainting to Concept Art" I think its a great way to create buildings, ship and whatever random design=9. but I like to have my backgrounds more "paintery" feeling over it.
its really hard to tell if stuff are wrong or not without a like a day break from the pictures or atleast a few hours, doesnt really help all the times to flip and flop the picture, its more for drawing issues I guess.
But I think im gonna fix some of the ground issues underneath the white spaceship tomorrow when I wake up, I will just update the same picture.
The black shapeship probably blend in abit mutch, hard to tell, it get better the longer you look at it!!!;(( ah well I will have to move on and make new paintings tomorrow!
Well havnt posted in a while now, I have actually been busy with Bobby Chiu online school course, I went for SelfTaugh version since I couldn't wait to learn=9, but yeh im soon done there and I have learned alot, now I just have to remember them:9.
Anyway here u have a few enviroments I have spent abit more time on than
what I usual tend to do, because I have been practicing, starting pictures=9 shown earlier in this thread.
