I m trying to make realistic looking medieval/fantasy artwork. I need some refrences for :
Does anyone know if there are any good sites to be found?
Movies are good refs if you can't find any. And the movies around have most covered all the ages of history imaginable but not all cultures of course.
If you have the bucks, 3D.sk has a good collection.
Scetchbook: View the exhibitionist's stuff.
THis should get you going for armour and weapons mate.
This is the site of one of those armoury shop jobbies but the images are good and they have a good selection of weapons to look at.
This is a page of links to weapons and costumes and all sorts of weirdness enjoy, there are some good images of weapons and armour. I haven’t been through it all yet there’s just too much of it to look at. This should keep you going for a while mate!
Ok matey, I have had a good look through my own reference materials and the net and it would appear that the ships you are dealing with from about the 12 century-ish era are what are called Caravels and or Carracks.
It seems from my reading that these things were notoriously unreliable due to the stupidly high fore castles and stern castles so for realism's sake watch the proportions.
Here are a few examples that I have scrounged up
Ok I have trawled the net and my own references and I have to admit the pickings are slim but here you go, this is what I dug up on Medieval Buildings.
Turbosquid have a collection of medieval buildings of various types here, as references go they are pretty good.
This site has some photos of various reconstructed medieval homes and such like.
This is another link to the same timber style structure that was typical of medieval times.
Ok you’re just going to have to go with me on this one! Trust me there are some medieval leftovers in some of these buildings.
A slightly larger set from turbo squid, admittedly some images ate a little small but you’re after references and these will do ( I think/ hope)
This particular poster has some good stone texture in the street and house wall and it’s a surviving medieval structure too! Cool! You may find some stuff in the other posters too.
Ok what I was thinking here is lose the roof windows and the house next door and the one on the left looks quite authentic and old then.
Had to share this one that castle is magnificent and crammed full of possibilities. More information can be had if you look for Gravensteen Castle in Ghent, talk about Fantasy castle wow!!
More 3d models but good reference material…….. hey most of the stuff you asked for is long gone what’s a guy to do !!
Ok I admit this one is reaching a bit, but the inspiration is there, kind of.
I think I will say I am done now thats all the stuff I could didg up for you, I really hope it helps and I look forward to you posting some stuff to look at soon (No pressure then LOL!)
