Here iŽll show you an animatronic i made last year.
It was my first sculpt in clay and my first attempt of making an animatronic.
Hope youŽll enjoy it!
Some pics during sculpting:
After that i made a form and a core-part:
Then iŽve casted the mask out of silicone;the green core-part with the moving parts(mechanics)
HereŽs a (worse) movie i made....
The movments are very short, but if i make a further animatronic, iŽll make it better!

I love it! Really. Animatronic is a stuff I would like to jump in too (If I could offer the time to do)
How did You make the moves in that movie? Is it remote controlled? Do you have some more pics from the mechanical parts behind the skin?
The mouth movements looks pretty cool. Do You use special springs inside the lips or is it all from the silikon? How many cables do You need to make such movements?
Would like to see more,
The whole thing is remote controlled. I used 4 servos for 6 movements.
The eyebrowns(very short movment), left lip, middle lip, right lip, lower jaw lips and the lower jaw. I also integrated a mechanic which moves the tongue if the jaw is moved, but its not easy to be seen. IŽdid a lots of mitakes(means ,things i did not ideal), but iŽm looking forwart.
Sadly i didnŽt make more photos of the mechanic, but maybe i can explain.
I only have this picture, itŽs made before the cabels are implanted.
The drawing should show the cabels and the direction they are pulled(green). The red lines are cabels which iŽve integrated into the silicone mask. They make shure that the movement looks smooth.
I didnŽt use steelcable i improvised with tennis raquet strings. As you can see, the strings run in a plastic tubes, like the brakes at a bike.
There are no spings, its all done by the silicone, but i think its better to use spings also.
Thanks for the kind words!
Good job, reminds me of a character that should have been in the old star wars movies!
I think it's cool what you're doing here, take alot of skill to combine those talents to produce something like this on your own.
I'd like to see more from ya, maybe the next one will blink? Way tricky I've heard you can get hired or fired on the quality of your blinks
You've inspired me to have a stab at this, what silicone do you use?
I've heard smooth-on dragon skin is good, what do you reckon?
Thank you Tea monster. IŽve to say, that i played with the idea of including the blink during the concept phase but itŽs really for the pros and not for the first homemade animatronic. But may be next time !
Yes, i used smooth-on dragon skin but even with silicone thinner it has a very high viscosity which makes it very difficult to cast the 3-5mm thick mask. I think iŽll buy Ecoflex silicone for the next one, it has the same characteristics but it has a lower viscosity. IŽll try.
