And now for something completely different: A Mountain Landscape
Hi you all,
I have tried breaking out of my usual "clean" way of illustrating and did this Painter oilpaint thing. I have done a lot of airbrushing (non-digital) in the far past, but actual (digital) painting, and letting the colors run over the canvas and blend into eachother this way is quite new to me.
So please let me know what you think of it. I want to get better at this.
it doesnt suck man, its a better painting than i can do at this point. the whole picture basically has the same lighting, you need contrast in the pic. 'darker darks and lighter lights' is some advise i found a long time ago, and i think it would serve well here. toss in some clouds to create shadows, and such. also, based on the perspective of the mountain and the generalization of details, those people on the terraces are huge. from this viewpoint, they would actually be very very small. also, it could help if you zoomed in and tightened up the painting a little bit. as i said earlier, theres no real focus in the pic.
That is just what I wanted to hear. Changing my way of color-use made me forget about lighting a bit too much I think. It can use a bit of shading-tension with some harder and darker shadows indeed, and you're right about the characters.
my pov: you could really define more forms and sharpness in there.
it's funny, because the pict itself is not very interesting, even though it shows that you know how to do it. i guess it's just that you have put too much concentration on the concept, and not enough on the final result. it happens often when you try to discovers new methods of creation: the idea is generally more interesting than the subject you chose in order to express it.
other point: warm and cold tones are all mixed up together. and there is no proper lighting yet. more work would be useful on this one. keep it up. 8)
Okay I get it. Nice idea, in my head it looks really great... now about on the canvas, hehe.
I have been painting in darker areas for shadow parts. But I'm afraid I painted it to death. Too much grey is getting in it now.
I'll consider that as finger excercise and start all over again with that tonight if I can find some time. I'll post you an update then.
