Hi! I posted a few studies of this illustration on a "studies and works in progress" (http://www.conceptart.org/forums/sho...d.php?t=139777) thread. Here`s the final version. Hope you enjoy it! C&C are welcome.
ha Ha, awesome, i was wondering when you would finish and post this! This really takes the cake, Ricardo. My favorite detail about this piece would have to be the three guys at the top, the light and shadow is awesome.
Ill be waiting for more, in the dark, just waiting quietly.
Some parts of the image look flat, while other areas pop out, overall I like it, nice detail on the guys up top.
@ Equality: Thanks dude! It took a while but it`s finally finished. The three guys were a finishing touch and I also like them a lot. I could see the beginning of something on them.
@ Robot_Tank: thanks for the comment! As for the three guys on top, well, I am very fond of the result I got on them.
Hey Ricardo - this is a really nice illustration. Nice eye-candy all around the picture frame. I might have bumped up the contrast in the center character (especially in the head area) to bring a bit more focus, but that's a minor issue. Great job!
Scott: thank you so much for your comments! I totally agree with you. I will tweak the contrast and re-post the illustration. Thanks for taking the time to checking my work and offering advice.
HI! Here`s the version with the corrected contrast (huge thanks to Scott Altmann!). It`s subtle, but I really think it improved a lot. Thanks everyone for the support. (Now, tell me what you think.)
I feel like the stone ruin is too smooth. Like do what ever you want to do to give some texture since its stone. And Im wondering what a few darker areas on the large face at the top right side. Its good to have lost edges but they lose importance if all of it is like that (same with over rendering every surface/edge). YOU DID IT WITH THE GIRL ON THE LEFT )
and speaking of the girl on the left, she is more detailed than the center character,,, which makes me study her more. U even made the feathers coming out of her hair as dark as the center character's shadows (which is fine) but she is a secondary figure and doesn't seem to balance with the smaller range of values on the right top face/ bust\
or makes your work cut out for you to make the center figure that much more defined and detailed
oh and maybe experiment with making the stone slightly different colors in places..Like push and pull the color next to the top right figures' headpiece to make them separate
Balance lost and found edges to really define space and make it pop more.
my 2 cents
@ Dwan: thanks for your comments dude! Constructive criticism is always appreciated and I`ll re-check the textures and values. Thanks for writing man!
This is so cool.
Im a big fan of ancient cultures, particularily aztec/mayan civilizations which is where im guessing you pulled from to create this.
The edited contrasted version definately pops better.
I really like the movie-poster style composition, it gives you the impression that these characters carry a powerful destiny in the story.
I think you did a particularily nice job with the warriors at the top and the temple to the lower right - id love to see you focus the attention you gave those areas to the central character a bit more; I definately think you have the patience and work ethic to really nail the lighting of his anatomy.
I know its hard when youve worked a while on something and just want to get it finished but spending the extra time will really be worth it when you see the result.
I hope my observations are useful to you my friend.
Cryptcrawler: thanks for your words my friend! You`re right, I did pull this one from Mayans and I`m also a big fan of ancient cultures. You`re absolutely right about the main character. I`ll review it and I`m sure it`ll improve!! You were very kind for taking the time to stop by and write. Thank you very, very much! Believe me, it was very useful!
@kaktuslime: What?! I forgot Jean Claude?.. Hahaha.. Perhaps that rimlight is little exagerated. I`ll check it out. Thanks for your comment!!
