For anyone in the future who might be lurking this thread; international students do also have a separate wait-list. While Canadians are waiting until Mid-May for their rankings, internationals were done as soon as possible.
I was asking specifically about illustration and they told me everyone but 3 people have accepted (again this is only international numbers), but if they don't flat out reject they have until July 5th or 15th to make a choice whether to go or not before they give their spot away. Also some people are refused visas and can't pay and such so spots might still open during the summer.
In slightly happier news, I am first on that waitlist.
Thanks! Fingers crossed for you, Nicki and anyone else here waiiiiiiting.
Also Sheridan got ranked #1 in the world for animation - http://animationcareerreview.com/art...esign?page=0,9

Wow, those rankings surprise me too.. I know Sheridan is GOOD.. but I think Gobelins and Calarts are better. Their films are a lot more interesting in my opinion.
As much as I like that this is the school I'm going to, I'd have to disagree, haha. Look at Gobelins, Ringling and CalArts films - frankly their average student appears to be better. That's all in my humble opinion though.
"We all have 10,000 bad drawings in us, the sooner we get them out the better."
I went to a panel discussion with three industry veterans from Blue Sky Studios this past weekend. I talked to Thomas Cardone (Rio, Emperor's New Groove, Ice Age, etcetc) briefly and he said that the only people he knows from Sheridan are those who attended around 15 years ago, and as far as he knows, he's not working with anyone who graduated more recently.
He also mentioned that there are virtually no jobs in character design due to the fact that they only need 2 or 3 per studio.
I think Sheridan is ranked so high because that's an animation, GAMING AND DESIGN list, and as far as I know, Calarts offers no game design programs.

You have to remember though - American companies are overwhelmingly going to go to American schools and hire Americans. Period. Because why would you worry about hiring someone who has to deal with work visas and green cards and complex issues, when you can get someone just as good who can move there by Monday morning?
In the last 15 years or so, a lot more US schools started offering animation programs. It wasn't that long ago that only like 10 schools in North America period offered animation diploma/degrees of any kind, now you can get bachelors in it at like 30 different colleges. Damn, I mean, Animation Mentor started in '05 and it's already outranking actual institutions.
They're training a lot more than they used to, it's more competitive now and you're going to have to be super good to make it outside of your borders.
I can't think of many non-US schools that American animators even vaguely know of.
Does anyone have any links to good Calarts final animation films? or not final is fine too. I know at least 3 animators that have gone to Sheridan and work for American companies. Two of them are able to do their animation/work in Canada and send them off to Disney when they are done.
I just found out my friend's sister graduated from Sheridan's animation course a few years back. Because they didn't work on 3D that much and she couldn't do their computer animation program, she's now working as a cake decorator. Do 3D somewhere sometime, bros.
Skimming through this list and starting to wonder which schools really are truly good when VFS is in the Top 20. Paying 40k$ for 1yr to essentially get your foot into the industry, hmm. Friend of a friend goes where and bought a 10k$ PC for the program because it was greatly recommended that she do so.
Seneca's first two years are traditional animation. The 3rd year is something you specialize in that's 3D ― 3D character animation, game art and animation, and vfx. The thing is that the 3rd year programs are also post-grad programs for people who aren't in animation, so you have to make another portfolio.
And I've been told that people who have already gone through animation school go to Gobelins to get even better, so it's not a place you should aim for when you're starting out.
Huh, I was dropping by to share that link with everyone too, I guess I'm too late. xD
Since I haven't been here in a bit, I just wanted to ask if the person who got the perfect 4.0 score put his portfolio up yet? ..hopefully? ;x
It's been a while since I've posted an update here on our meet-up.
From the info I have, the open house starts at 10 am on Saturday? We'll be meeting up at 12:30 pm noon at the entrance to the caf at Sheridan.
So it looks like we've decided to walk or bus to a restaurant in the area- sun @ 10 degrees C for Saturday. Right now I'm looking at a sports bar called Monaghan's, which should be a good place for lunch with pretty neutral menu items. It's 136 meters from Sheridan apparently, or a 7 minute walk (don't ask rofl). I'm not from the area, so if anyone has been to Monaghan's or has a another suggestion, post ahead.
Otherwise, see you guys there! If you don't find us in the caf past 12:45, meet us at Monaghan's. In case you can't find us, keep my # and feel free to text me: #613 .. 806 .. 5295
