Hi everyone! My name is Alexander Forssberg, I'm a 20 year old fella' from Sweden (so excuse my english). I've been drawing all my life and I got into a school here in Sweden where I study 3D graphics for the game industry. But I would say my final career goal is to be able to make a living as a concept artist for some cool developer.

I have never been in any artschool or anything like that. Everything I've learned about concept stuff is from looking at other peoples work and I also got some Massive Black movies like Jason Chan's quick sketch stuff, I learned alot from it but it mostly got me depressed :/

I just whopped this together for practice, took almost 40 minutes I think.
Like most newbies I have troubles with hands so here is some I did with just looking at my hand.
:edit: the pinky on the grapping pic has a really wierd angle
2 more sketches, I didn't use any references or perspective stuff on them so I expect some errors
some kind of mechanical shrimp on wheels and what started as a dude picking an apple ended in a alien invasion. I hope you like.

I thinks it's handy right now to set some goals. Maybe you want to learn something more about perspective, or about the human figure,... It can be handy to have some goals "to work too".
I would suggest perspective first. Try to find some books about perspective or look the internet for some good links first.
Try to check out loomis for more information about the human figure.

Hey again! I was just about to start a new sketchbook here but I remembered I had this old one, so why not continue on it. Here is some sketches I've done lately in photoshop, hopefully you guys can see some sort of progression from the first posts here I did 6months or so ago.
Hey Alex, cool works! Your PS rendering is coming along well - you have some nice confident strokes - but it looks like your line quality is not as refined. Might be a good idea to work with plain old pencil and paper for a while... in particular you could benefit from some anatomy studies
Ho Chief! Thanks for your answer, I've been doing some studies mainly from Andrew Loomis books both on paper and in Photoshop. I'm still a noobie when it comes to the musclegroups and all that but I'm trying!

keep doing the loomis studies and try drawing more from life, some more still lifes and stuff, those are the things are are really going to help you sharpen your drawing skills, those last set of muscle and figure studies were great.

Hey man, welcome to CA! I see great potential here; I think you've got some neat ideas but you've got to practice a lot more. Your drawings/paintings/sketches generally lack a sense of depth because the rendering is flat. Your black and white ones tend be mostly midtones which is the reason they seem so flat. You also want to kick up your anatomy studies. I see you have a few already, which is really good (they also look good!) but you're going to have to do A LOT of them. Also, you might want avoid color for a little while and just focus on black, whites and grays so that you can get your values right.
And remember, use whatever free time you have for art! Keep going dude! Don't stop!
Nice work! I like those studies a lot. You mightt want to try bringing that same line quality into one of your own drawings, it might help you give some definition to your forms.

Peetaer; Thanks a bunch for your advice! Is the best way for me to add more depth to my rendering to use darker shadows and lighter highlights you mean? I'll keep on doing my anatomy sketches and stuff, and I'm happy that you say you see some potential! I'm currently unemployed and only a artist in my own mind but someday hopefully I can attend some artschool, good this is that leaves me much time drawing!
After I read your post I did a quick pic to try to shade with alittle more depth, the figure itself is not something to get excited about but I just wanted to do some practice.
Not sure I use those rimlights or what its called, the bright light from back correctly hehe
Hey all! A friend of mine asked me to make some concepts of characters that he wants to use in a 3D short film he is gonna do for a school project.
He wanted a bunch of characters in a cartoony style in a medeval "monsters vs. village folk" theme. Here's two ideas I had for it
