Hey all, well I feel silly not having a sketchbook up. So here it is, the latest.
(the name came from the title of the latest sketchbook I bought, some cheapo in a French grocery store)
Here are some doodly things, with a few gesture observations. I like to draw with pens too much, any pen will do.
...and the sketches. heh. woops.
Hi Moroi! Thank you for your comment on my sb. Nice pen sketches! Keep it up!
nice pen work - i look forward to seing a completed piece
Hey moroi! Lovley pensketches, I really dig the creatures! You've also got a good grasp of lines and form. I think you should continue study the human figure though, draw lots from life and complement it with pure anatomy studies. For instance you seem to not fully grasp the bonestructure in faces, study the planes, and draw alot of self portraits, that usually does the trick.
I look forward to seeing more.
Tigermilk- Thank you! And oh my you are so right on the planes of the faces, I always feel mine are just...off. Well off to some sp's then, haven't done those in forever.
Gail_Blitzy Thanks! Completed works aren't my strong point, they always seem unfinished to me.
And here's some junk I should have posted sooner. There's a Caravaggio study, and another study of Scholderer, and a costumed actor (gargoyle statue) with a bit of the Cologne Cathedral in the bg.
Hey you got a good start here! Nice studies. Keep drawing and keep posting! Im liking the creatures too. No i havent heard of the girls only 'secret' forum. Thanks for telling me What is it about?
i love the church? castle? study, and the one above it
is that a moleskine?
I like your good sense of proportion and anatomy. The gestures are just fantastic. Keep it up.
Some really intriguing stuff here. You have a great 'blocky' sort of style of shading that's a cross between Brett Helquist, for example, and regular curvy lines.
Dunno if your'e familiar with the guy, but he just came to mind. Does the illustrations for A Series of Unfortunate Events. Can't find any actual images online, but basically he uses small groups of straight strokes facing the same direction, but each group faces a slightly different way, until you get a sort of 'jittered but flowing' effect. It's hard to describe.. check out the books though.
Looking forward to more.
Pixie Bergman- Thank you! And I'll pm you.
Oranje Joe- Thanks! Yep, its a sketchbook moleskine, i loooove them. Wish they sold bigger sizes with the thick paper is my only complaint.
drewfarr- Thank ya', I can't wait until I have time too. For the next week all these sketches are for school related work. Oh well just one more week.
ninjacat11-Thank you! I always have to scribble alot before i'm happy with the proportions. xD
blenditall- Yeah, I'm vaguely familiar with the book covers. I remember thinking they always looked cool. Thanks for the compliment, he has some awesome work.
Okay, worked on my term paper all day today (its on motorcycles, tho' i can't complain). So here's yesterday's sketches. Most of this is master's studies or some were on-site sketches. I'm having to finish up a sketchbook/journal for class, and so that's where this is all coming from. (took a class in Germany, and this journal's based on the trip...)
First is a dead rabbit from a Dutch master, then a Katherine-Kollwitz study, Charlottenberg palace, Eames' chairs, and a snail & fish carvings supporting a reliquary.
nice SB Continue drawing from life!
You're pretty good at it!
My Sketchbook [ACTUALLY UPDATED!]
I have 800 posts
I like the values on the latest pictures.
Oh man! I want that chair! Well done!
The building is cool as well (as are all the sketches) but I'd like to see some shading on that building.
Edit: Ha, I see drewfarr made the same chair comment.
Thanks guys! I really, really want to just sit down and do some studies. But school comes first, and for the next week my ass is getting kicked by a term paper and finishing up this "journal" thing.
So, some stuff I finished in the journal today:
Altar of Zeus, German country side, and a Berlin cathedral.
I like the environment studies you just posted. They have a bit of a loose, but structured look to them.
drewfarr- all the villages i got to see in the german countryside were really inspiring. couldn't help but take a ton of photos.
okay! well i managed to incorporate a self-portrait into the journal, a study of a reliquary, and part of an old german motorrad. two more days and then i can draw robots for all i care!
I think ninjacat11 really nailed it -- a loose, but structured look to them. I really like the cathedral/church.
Self portrait looks pretty good, same with the second image (and third for that matter) but a little more detail on that motorcycle would be good
I really like these first two, and I'll be the third to sign on to ninjacat's description. There's a certain effortless feel thats' really appealing.
Im with blenditall though, if you hadn't told me it was a motorcycle, I probably wouldn't have guessed it
Cant wait for more, I always enjoy seeing your updates.
I'll have to agree with blenditall and drewfarr on this one. The motorcycle could use a little more detail.
thanks guys, yeah, there could have been a lot more to that motorcycle sketch.
was too sleepy to scan the couple of things i did yesterday, but here they are: a study of a friend and then monster with an old man's head. i've been fixated lately on the idea of monsters with human heads. i want to try and sketch some more soon....
