And he already updated!
I think you should leave it for the night, if flipping and rotating doesn't help, and look at it with a fresh eye tomorrow. The values are nice, the details as well.
The light source could have been more well defined, but seeing from your past studies, i think that's what you were going for.
About what may be wrong, if it's not the white of her eyes, and a bit the iris seems placed to far out towards the corner, making it seem flat in a way, then i'd say it's the shoulders.
They're to stiff, to front view for her side view head perspective. I tried standing like that, it doesn't feel to natural, nor comfortable for a matter of fact, so that may be it.
wow nice work
my subconscious does not stop begging my conscious to draw.
hmm does that mean im a slave to my subconscious?
at least it doesnt beg for crack. ha.
You seem to work really well from reference (since it's basically a cheat sheet).
But in your other work I can see a lack of form. Especially around the eyes.
I'd recommend next time you work from reference that you really think about why it looks like that form, draw it several times, try to invert the lighting before you commit it to your finished drawing.
A study isn't about copying what you see, its about thinking and experimenting with reality. Your reference photo is the reality you're trying to depict, so reverse engineer it in your head and on canvas. This will help you remember when you do your non-ref work.
A study is more about thinking than actually drawing.
Ooh my! Isn't this turning out brilliantly! Love what you did with the imagine fx peace!
The previous values studies are awesome too. Makes me want to do a few more myself!
And you say that YOU'RE the slacker! Aah you're definitely making ME feel like one!
Reedux - Thanks for the comments, I think thats a big reason why I feel I don't retain a lot from studies. Lots to think about when I next do some.
BlackDelphin - Thanks for stopping by, glad you like the IFX peace.
I think this is about done, wed is the deadline so I still have a few days to fix things if needed.
great drawing skills man. really liking your stuff. Your values are a bit off though. everything is very dark, doesnt read well from a design point of view. have you read the chapter on values in creative illustration by andrew loomis cause i think if your stuff had better values youŽd deserve 5 stars
Hey man, good work and really nice dedication. I'm always seeing your stuff in the Crimson Dagger's thread. You make me realize I need to do some portraits.... haven't really done any in awhile now. The first portrait in post #352 looks awesome. Keep it up.
Woo, great knowledge of anathomy! cool sketchbook man
I admire your hard work, allso the fact that you neat every piece.
You are making steady progress. Keep it up.
