hey guys. Everyones "Deep" stuff got me inspired to explore the underwater world myself. I'm not really sure where I want to go with the female's lower body. Also, some thoughts about the color palette would help.
I like this. Maybe you might put the females lower body somewhere between his legs or change the position (or just value) of his leg since right now this really disturbs the flow of the pic I think. His knee (our left) is also pretty bright. I mean, it might be right that it catches light a lot like this, but I find it confusing for the composition.
Hm, it's kinda odd to cut off his toe (.. or whatever it is :p) like this. Probably just give it a little more canvas size?
A little more variation on the color scheme might make it more interesting.
like, adding even more violets and brown/yellows there. This should make a decent impact, considering the blue everywhere.
Altogether this is still a little dull. I thik, if you want to establish the faces as the focal point, just push the contrast/details there.
Love the ruins in the bg and the creaturedesign. Looking forward to see this evolve.
Hey DD. Thanks for the input. Here's an update. Stay tuned for more.
The added contrast definitely adds more direction around the canvas. I'm also liking the school of fish (fish, yes?) as it breaks up all of that negative space, replacing it with a very nice pointing mechanism.
I'm not reading a lot of muscle definition in the legs at all. They seem out of proportion, his lower legs (like, below the knee) appear too short and it looks like you're cramming him down to make him fit on the canvas. The highlight on her shoulder is nice, but it also leads attention away from her/his face and to something immediately close to them on the same plane. You might want to tone that down some, give their eyes some specular highlights and put highlights on their noses in the appropriate places to bring more attention to their faces. Don't go too crazy as highlight happy behavior can lead to a flattened image. You might also want to revisit the hands, especially the females.
Nice painting- keep us posted.
