New sketches. a reminder to be more prolific and keep at it when i try and sum up the last few days and most of what i can drag up is this.... nevertheless:
Started work on IDOW, i might not get to a finished rendering, but some sketches. I settled on a brutalist interpretation of a coffeemaker because that gives the appliance the authority it deserves: also random studies from books and some really quick sketches....
yeah, i was amazed it wasn't taken. one these days ill shell out for a tablet and experience the joys of drawing with "undo" and layers. until then, tracing paper is a bitch.

Thanks for commenting on my sketchbook. I'm not the best with critiques, but I'll try here. The proportions seem a bit off with your characters (I'm working on improving the same thing for myself) but just continuing to observe and draw should fix that. It's cool to see you're working on a variety of subjects. I need to do that myself.
The perspective seems a bit off on the coffee maker. It gets larger as it recedes. Maybe some sketching utilizing vanishing points might help.
I look forward to seeing more.
You really need too sit down and study perspektive. for exampel in the coffemaker picture it looks like left most and rightmost corner is about the same distance from you but they have vastly different height. And this goes through for most of the cars too.
Perspective is more than a set of rules and drawing lines to a vanishing point. it's somethign we need to think of and take into consideration in every part of drawing. not that we need to draw vanashing points and perspective lines. We just need to be aware of how it works so we can fake it.
Loomis has some really goood explanations of why perspective is the basis for almost everything.
I do like the skull however.
pencil portrait, 24x36, (teh distortions and line across teh middle are due to 2 sheets o fpaper being joined) drawn from a grainy, wrongly half-toned b&w laser printout of a photo i took. i've worked on it a bit since i took the pic, i've (hopefully) corrected the fact that the feet are way too small, adjusted the nose a bit, and evened out some of the hatching/shading. comments and crits welcome, especially on issues of style
Some quick (approx 1 min) gestures, one blind contour drawing (interesting results) and short (10 min) poses from life drawing, all in conte, in the 2 longer poses some pencil undersketches/gestures to get the volumes close. All on 2'x3' sheets, but cropped for upload (the gestures are 11" high) some distortion due to my camera (also due to drawing ability ) The current focus is proportion and economy/confidence with strokes. now if only i'd stop shattering my conte on the concrete floor....
