I hope it is finished.. I am going to bring it to the gallery I just recently signed with and hope they like it. wish me luck
jailhouse thanks man..
Here is a reference I have been tinkering with. I am going to do a 6x4 ft. charcoal piece and other mixed media. It will go into the series i will be doing that started out with the "Dripping Away" large charcoal drawing of that kid. This will be a tad smaller though because the large pieces are hard to transport and build frames for. I will be starting tomorrow and staple up my linoleum!
This is what linoleum is. It is the stuff that you put down as fake flooring. I usually try to use a light weight version of the material and recently bought a new 8x12' version and cut it down into four 4x6' pieces. I plan on doing a series of people with emotion with the beginning being children and go on to older people.
My beginning stages. I think I am going to have some mixed media in the clothing and helmet I am just not sure yet! 4x6 feet!
Ah, so I wasn't wrong about the Lino lol. Feel a bit dopey there
I thought when you originally posted your reference, that you were going to do the whole thing in lino lol. Sorry my brain is fried from all of my assignments. Will you be doing the more complex areas in charcoal and then using the lino?
And the size of that work is massive! I have alot of trouble filling up the page correctly with an A1 piece. Great work so far though.
I don't know if I know what you are talking about Karein, haha. But, I will be doing the details. I am going to incorporate mixed media and do a color wash on the face once it is done and sprayed. Here is an update!
Here is the child almost done. I am going to put a glaze on his face I think after it is sprayed.
Title I think will be "No Choice" And it is 4x6' with charcoal, acrylic, and spray paint as mediums.

i have seen this photo before but one here along side the finished work wouldn't hurt for critique wise. I think it looks great imo. Most i can say is the helmit may need a bit more work, feels maybe a little to muddy.
Keep it up.
tri beer gut - ya i got the reference from da but the guy gave me permission to use it as a reference. hopfully when I am done I will have made it somewhat my own.
Hey friends This is a 4x6 ft. charcoal/acrylic on linoleum. I had so much fun doing this. Took around 20 hours on and off through this past week. I am doing a series on emotions and children always show the best emotions. Even though I used a reference for the child I tried to create a different mood and theme. Having something this big really does help the child's emotions come out and hit you in the face. I ended up putting a faint warm wash on the face to make her stand out more.
The title is "No Choice" because she represents what I see in the future. Our young children will be pushed into war at such a young age because all other resources have been depleted.
Please drop a line on what you do and don't like so I can try to make my work better. Thanks
*burp* I am about to start my next large charcoal piece. Going for a more happy feeling now haha.
Here is a doodle.
here is my newest one. I plan on painting in alot of flowers under her and doing some cool stuff with the hat and flowers on it.
this is also 4x6 ft.
Hey everyone, hope I could get some comments and suggestions on what I should do with this cute little girl. Here is a sketchup of what I could do with some paint on it. Thanks!
i'd like to see you doing stuff that wasn't photo ref'd, or at least from your own photo... or inspired and ref'd by a variety of images so as to make it your own.. otherwise you're going to end up leaving out that bit that makes it your own.. i feel a little disconnect between your pieces, possibly because many of them are influenced by another's artwork (photography), still beautiful pieces though.
I would agree amarryth. I do actually change alot in my most recent artwork. Facial expressions, composition, objects, abstraction are mostly always incorporated in different ways to show my type of style in my work. Due to my most recent pieces being portraits it is sometimes difficult to change make it look completely different from the reference. Also, I always make sure I have full permission to use the photographs and I gladly show them the result as well. I will link you the references and see what you think about them. I plan on taking my own pictures of children and I know that I need to be more original. I have already met with some friends to do so I am glad you felt free to tell me your thoughts and thank you. It really does help me see clearer from another viewer.
Anywho here is the finished and then references I used.
FactorZero I usually do research on reference and ideas and the type of style I want. I usually do a few sketches in photoshop when using a reference and adjust different things.
here is a better picture
