i was looking over the site for my first time and i saw a bunch of life drawings. SO heres mine...its a progressive thing for a 14 week period (2 semesters) ..not chronological but there is a clear increase in skill .
more to come
I love the figure studies! about how many minutes does it take you to do each one? Are you enrolled in a class of some sort?
"Every portrait that is painted with feeling is a portrait of the artist, not of the sitter." -Oscar Wilde
i can do a very basic human body in about 2 minutes. bout 5 minutes to get some shadow in too and thank you so much lol
did the jfk a few years ago ...it was an excercise ...drew it upside down so we wouldnt focus on "a nose is a nose" but only on the shapes and values.
and man i love being able to update a pic right to the forums..its insane
sorry its my first day here and i have a lot of scans. lol...bear with me
just random sketches once again. the 2nd ones a self portrait
Nice figure studies Would like to see some more soon!
Hey there, thanks for stopping by my sketchbook. You've got nice work in here, particularly in the expressions. I particularly like the guy in the bottom left of the second one in your first post. For some reason he reminds me of the Cardinal in Sin City. The life studies are good too. It would be nice to see a more finished piece as well. (That's something I need to do too.)
theres a foreman turning into venom deal aaand my flower queen
i drew the following cause i want to colour them...since i don't have any technique and its very difficult to use painter..at least for me
Hey, sweet lookin' sketches you got here. I sense a comics influence or maybe the gorillaz style. Your controlled hatching is nice to look at. I hope to see more in that level of finish.
The paneled figure studies looks cool too. Reminds me of Steve Rude's systematic way of doing anatomy studies in his sketchbooks.
Keep drawing and keep posting!
cmoreland: thnx man. i'm actually 2nd year in a graphic design program..lifedrawing classes were kind of a must but its my dream to become a comic book artist so i've actually skipped classes to attend life drawing classes for free lol . thnx for the comment btw
scottmcd: thnx for the post!!! i'll upload some finished pieces once i get a digi cam cause most of em are paintings.
jazzw: thnx for saying that about my life drawings. i really try to make them consistant with strong lines
flipMcgee: thnx dude..i actually have a very heavy influence from comic books (mainly micheal turner and josh middleton)...also manga and loads of cartoons haha.
Thnx for the comment. really preciate it
these are over the past few days. i tried coming up with some ideas for character costumes.
1st one is a horse/helldog....i dun really know just messing around...not very good yet
2nd one is gonna be this guy with 4 giant baton swords around his ass with a cloth covering them all..when he fights he just spins around with 2 in his hand and the other ones are weapons flinging at his waist.
3rd one...some young angry prince
4th....a ghost of a decrepid old man...gets dark power from the jewel in his skull..
random thoughts..confused...so am i haha
wow you got some good stuff here. I like the detail you put in in the five minute sketches... I gotta get a scanner so I can scan in some of my life drawing here.
just some more doodles. some of this stuff is for one of my jobs..but yeah just a lot of random ides and some poses from a website.
yep. starting to colour. this is bout 30 mins of experimenting with brushes. i took a liking to the hoe pen brush (you know the one with the 5 scratchy things).. i use painter/photoshop
i would like ot know how people make their shading so nice and the values so proper...is it just loads n loads of little details or is there a way to blend really nicely...well i guess i'll research. crits welcome just be gentle haha
Thanks for stopping by my SB.
Dude, there is instant improvement in here. Good lines, that eagle is sweet as well as the swans (stop looking at me swan!), I dig the cycloptic swirly smoky thing at the bottom of post #14. Finish him.
Keep it up.
Watch out for Piranhas
watercolour brushes and I'd like to say i found my perfect ink brush that sucker aint going anywhere
Good mix of styles and techniques in your SB.
Very impressed with the Life drawings.
my sketches here... http://conceptart.org/forums/showthread.php?t=92997
www.sevans.co.nz , visit them or a puppy dies!
of course..more doodles
Hah! found my second victim--Just joshing, thought i'd come check out your stuff since you were so kind.
Keep up the great work--Out of all of these i think i really like that horse concept..well horse-zombie concept XD You should finish that one for sure! I'll keep an eye out for you guys.
I love your stuff - it's got such fluidity and the attitudes read really well. I can definitely see what you mean about linework, as yours is strong and confident, especially on the life drawings.
Character-wise, you're pretty much at or near the level of skill of a lot of published comickers out there, so if you broaden the scope of your subjects - environments, machines, etc, you'll be doing monthlies in no time. Though keep working those hands and feet - they're subtle but important cues to characters personalities, and ought to be given a bit more detail. Also, you don't want to become another Liefeld, do you?
i'd just like to say thank you to everyone that gave me a post here.
kateoo - you made my day with your comment haha. i'll try to broaden more...but yeh as you can see enviro's are hard for me.
I enjoyed looking through your stuff, you've a really nice style going on there. Awesome. Good luck with your digital work! It's looking good
been going at it with the inks. been trying to look for a technique to blend with but so far this is what i came up with in th epast few hours
You've got some really fantastic concepts, and your faces are very expressive. I'm also admiring your lines, as others have said there's a confidence that shows in them that really gives your work a vibrant feel to it.
