took me about 8 - 10 hours or something
This guy here eats stone for fuel, inside his body it gets incinerated, The ashes and smoke leave his body through the pipe on his back.
But this guy here has bin around so long that the pipe on his body has just melted with stone into something that looks like a vulcano.
hope u like it
I don't know about the "unfinished" brushwork here and there (foreground mountain, highlight on the robot's back). I think the piece feels unfinished in general, really. Which is fine for an illustration- not so much for concept art.
Overall, though, I really like this guy. His facial expression reminds me of a kid grabbing for candy. The colors are nicely done and the robot's quirky perma-hunched anatomy is kinda interesting. I dig it.
If I understand this correctly, I tend to disagree... I think it is the other way around. Concept art is about the concept, the idea and as long the idea comes across, there should not be a problem (even sketches can be excellent concept art).I think the piece feels unfinished in general, really. An illustration on the other hand needs to be cleaned up so that it DOES look finished, as a standalone work of art.
Sorry if that doesn't make much sense, my English isn't quite as good as I'd want it so I'm having a hard time trying to explain myself...
Anyways, this digital painting has excellent lighting, and as a concept, I totally get what this is about. As for an illustration I do believe you need to clean up the brush strokes a bit, but not completely as it gives this painting some texture (albeit a bit inconsistent). Great work, keep it up!
I'm confused about the scale. I assume he's supposed to be absolutely huge, but it's not coming across.
