Hey there! =)
Cool stuff you've got here!
Keep working from those newspaper references, and continue your anatomy-studies.
I'll check back later Cheers!
ReviseTheMethod : Thanks, I will. Your SB is excellent, everyone should go have a look. And you pushed this into it's 4th page! Exciting.
clanlord : Thanks man. I will try to update more often.
JRStagg : Always a pleasure....
I can't sleep right now, and I have to get up for work in like, 2 hours or something. Here's some character designs I'm doing for a really good friend of mine. He wants something that's like a blend between A and C...
It's kind of throwaway right now, but I'll have a proper version by .... monday? ...
Nice variation between those knights. Heres a bit of an obvious comment, especially since you said yourself this is a throwaway version- but id try and avoid crowding concepts together like that, it makes them hard to read!
ALH - Thanks. You're dead right. They were throwaway thumbnails fo him. They're close to actual size here at 600 - 700 px across, and he was squinting at them a bit before he could comment on which he liked. Need to spread the old thumbnails out a bit.
Started doing a ballpoint of the character armour today. Just keeping familiar with the idea. I'm getting the five individual write ups for the actual characters, import a drawing to Photochop & stick individual details onto the template to differentiate between the five guys/knights/templars whatever..
And I've been making some weird characters for.... something.... My ideas are getting odder....
How's about that page 4?
Is that it? Silly season is finally over. Anyhoo, I got knocked over by a dose of the manflu in the last few days, and still had to go to work. What the hell is that about? They should pay the sick, it only seems fair.
Been trying to keep up to speed. Copying Michelangelo and Mucha. Maybe there's an M thing going on. Anyways, some samples above. I have lots more to scan and photograph, but I really need to dose up on lemsip and go to bed. Night conceptart.org folks.
Work really does suck the life out of things (see my post above ) but I'm nearly better from my flu or whatever it was. Anyhow, more sketchiness....
Oh my god I have been so lazy in updating for the last what, month? I have no good excuse.
Verehin: Thanks dude. I will endeavor to photograph or scan in more as I go.
I got my copy of Massive Black Vol. 1 in the post, and oh my good it's a little bit too special for words. It's fricking awesome. It's a masterwork. As I said in the thread on it, those guys are some magnificent bastards. In my super signed special preordered on I got a sketch from Jason Chan:
Which was great.
Here's some stuffs from recently.
And my ideas for the next POW! I've been meaning to get this done everytime for the last 7 or 8 POWs and missed them everytime. Ilkaeae has been an absolute HERO to keep them going so long when fools like me let him down. Don't worry! I'm a-coming this time!
Nice to see someone doing lots of actual pen on paper sketchbooking!
Keep pushing those studies. Try to do some ref stuff where you look at the ref, then hide it and draw from memory, it can be a big help in internalizing stuff.
I like this one a lot: http://www.conceptart.org/forums/att...3&d=1230422306
I lost photoshop due to... some kind of fault? Something? Maybe it's to do with Vista? I have no familiarity with Vista really. I keep getting confused about how to make things work.
It's kind of back working again, thanks to the kind folks at Adobe. Anyhoo...
cakeypigdog: Dude, thanks. I hope your toy goes into production asap. I really want one. I just noticed I have stars on my SB! You guys are aces. I also have to say that I'm trying to get my POW! done for the deadline, but I've been photochop-less for the last 3 weeks and I only got it back in the last 2 days.... I'll feel lousy for letting the guys down.
Still trying to finish the most recent POW!, which is important to me seeing as I flunked out of the Mens/Womens TD. Every time a extension has been announced, I've been like, "Phew, a few more days..." I'm a disorganised person. Also hoping to get the Queens consort CHOW done this week. There's been some cool topics in CHOW recently, I hope everyone is jumping aboard.
Anyhow, some little sketches....
Argh, I really wanted to have the POW! done this week. I really tried, but Photoshop let me down. I think there's something wrong with my install of it. I'm reverting to CS2. That wasn't as funky fresh, but it was less painful.
Here's all I got done. I wanted to resize panels and things and have it a bit more dynamic, but you'll have to live with the basic scan & text of page 1. I liked the way I got an honourable mention in the poll. Thanks, Ilkaeae.
Anyhoo, some sketches and so forth. I used to do technical drawing.. engineering drawing? draftsmanship? in school, so I used to be really good at perspective stuff, even freehand. This one stinks. Look at all those crooked lines. I'm going to go give the same place another go tomorrow. (A crawlspace at work - real location!)
And something kind of blue. Actually, I'm pretty happy with this cos I had no reference. Awesome.
Working away. Working everyday. I have to upload some studies...
I was going to do a bit of fanart for my friends webcomic. You can find their stuff here - Fish for Fish.
This is just thumbnailing some ideas for them. And some other scribbling from today....
Thanks for dropping by my book :
Nice work on your pencil drawings. You're good at crosshatching. Im lacking in that area. I can't work the planes, haha.
Keep up the work, and keep pumping out studies!
Very nice linework man!!!You need some more training in anatomy i think.Just to expand your character horizons.Very nice !!!
See ya and thnx for stopping by my sketchbook !!!
Thanks for swinging by Your sketches are very nice. I like the name - Skootchbeck LOL
Thanks all my visitors!
Nadiamoon: No problem, I always enjoy a visit. I have to try a few more alternative names for the humour value.
kingkostas: More training in anatomy is the never ending journey for all of us. I'm still on it. Thanks man.
Seage: Thanks. I think my crosshatching is sometimes pointless unless I pay very strict attention to it. Like a lot of things, I know how I should do it, but it's not internalised enough to be a habit. Still, thanks for the kind words.
Some stuff in ballpoint from work. I ended up working 2 extra days this week, so not a lot done bar scribbles. Still, some of it is nicely loose. I llike bits and pieces of it.
Not a lot today, but only cos it's 2:30AM here and I don't feel like scanning right now. I started, but it's just too much effort and my eyes are closing. First, one from my pocket work moleskine. No reference used, just scratching the paper....
And I never go to the Lounge section on CA. I'm not sure why not, but something drew me there recently and I was looking at the "Draw from the what people look like" thread or whatever it's called. And then I was bored at work. So then I printed out loads of faces and started into them. I'll stick them into the proper thread when I get a chance, and I'll put up a photo of my mug so I can qualify under the rules that Arshes Nei stuck up. But speaking of Arshes Nei, here's a tiny sample... just for kicks.
Nice improvements goin' on in here, D! Especially diggin' the Muchas -- but then I'm incorrigibly biased. Keep drawing things from life, and drawing any and all of the time. Based on the potential I'm seein' here... things'll get madd crazy real quick
Look, see! Nifty art! http://www.conceptart.org/forums/showthread.php?t=99803
Hey! Check out my blog here
some of your recent stuff kinda reminded me of/ made me think of "american pop" I think it's when you use the bolder lines, I also like when you work blocks of solid colors into your compositions has a really cool look.
"If you ever give your best... well give it better"-Maniac...
localfatheaded: Dude, you have me nailed. All the stuff I tried to sneak into my graduation exhibition in college was filled with screen tone dots too. I love american pop, cheap cartoon looks and blocks of colour. Did you ever see frogandBAM!'s SB? (I might be misspelling his user name). His work is the perfect meld of that kind of design sensibility, for my money.
AmontilladoAg: Thanks man. Really all that stops there being a lot more of more here is that I don't work digital too often in the last few months and scanning is no fun. I should probably take quick photos and just get over it, but usually photos of work looks glame.
I was comissioned to do a little pic of a church for a wedding pamphlet:
I did this ages ago, and I'm kind of hoping it hasn't been used yet. I want to submit a cleaner one - maybe a black ink only version, using a brushpen or something. I think this looks too muddy at small scales, and if its going to be at the top of the brochure, then it's going to be small...
I was familiar with what the idea of a blending stump was. I just had never held one before. I ran into them recently in an art store here. We don't really get a lot of even the basics here in Galway - it can be hard to find moleskines, charcoal blocks, putty erasers, graphite dust, good latex gloves, decent rulers, brushpens, the grey scale of markers (10%, 20%, 30%...), sanguine red, decent chalk, nupastel... anyhow, I digress. So it was a shock to see something "odd" (for here). I know people are down on blending, but I had to give it a go. Conclusion: They probably have their place in large drawings. Not on small moleskine SB's ever again.
And some monsters. Grrrrr.
2:26 AM and I have work in 5 hours. Awesome.

Capital G, MacTire: Ah, the Irish contingent. Are we all excited about/planning to go to the European CA workshop? I know I am...
Should be updating this more often, but scanning is a pain in the ass. I need a new, fresh scanner. I'm still having old scanner-to-vista problems, and it just makes a chore out of the fun of posting.
It's a shame really. My internet was patchy the last month or so too, so i missed Team CHOW starting. I guess I would have been no help to anyone with patchy internet anyways. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.............
Yo ho ho and so forth. I hope this pushes on to page 5 soon, if only to speed up my load times. Anyhoo, I never represent what I do in a day accurately, so here's *most* of what i did today, while at work. It has taken over an hour to scan these 7 images. (See earlier posts, damn old scanner, damn vista, etc.... )
Stuff from the small SB's. One of these near the end is the idea I was pushing around for myself for the Joan of Arc CHOW. I have a few CHOW concepts I went back and finished, I might do this one too and then post up the lot of them. I think I could have had a shot at the laurels once or twice, well, unless deadred or someone of her calibre was involved - have you seen her Joan? Or indeed, her anything. Stunning.
And from the bigger SB, a copy of good old Michelangelo. The guy did good work for a turtle.
MacTire: Thanks! I like Lichtenstein...
Another CHOW I started on.... should have finished it. I used to be big into the Sandman series, but I'm not quite so passionate about it anymore. My GF once did a stage play directly adapting bits of the "Morpheus Love Life" story. I played Destiny, if only cos there was little to do as Destiny. But I do like Death. She's the least pretentious, or at least the least given to author pretentions(sp?)...
