you have an incredible eye for form and value! I commend your work, and while you started out doing fantastically, as the thread continues, you've managed to improve even further. very nice art!
Hey man! really nice stuff here! I also like the diversity of you paintings and drawings, its a really good thing to be that versed!
Btw, what is the school you go to?
good luck and keep the good work coming!
Hi everyone, thanks for the comments. Yeah, finishing is something that I am fighting to get to right now with my portfolio project. Hopefully in a couple months time when it is all done I'll have more finishes up here. Thank you for pointing that out, it's something I have to figure out.
In the meantime, I started zbrush class at school! I'm learning from the great Sze Jones who is currently at Naughty Dog. It's been a real challenge getting used to the interface... but I finally have a blob. Yay! We built a bust from primitives, no zspheres or anything like that. Now homework is to sculpt the features in.
@llex_paul: I go to LAAFA (Los Angeles Academy of Figurative Art). It's great!
This is what I have so far.... this is my first time using Zbrush or any 3d program at all so I have a lot to learn.
You have some great work here! That's so cool that you got to visit Blizzard, I'm jealous Nice work on the zbrush head, I worked with that program for a while a few years ago when I went to a summer precollege art camp thing, ended up making stuff like this after working at it for a couple days
it's an fun program, and you can make some interesting stuff with it. Check out http://www.zbrushcentral.com
art is never finished, only abandoned~Leonardo da Vinci
the purple horse sketch you did gets more motivated to draw something right now

Sick of working on my portfolio project, so I did a sketch.
Wander what manner of creature rides it.
Was there anything in particular that caused this sketch's creation?
@ezekrialse: Hey, thanks for sharing!
@Mental-Mouse: Not really anything in particular, I just wanted a chance to paint something purple. I've also always had a fascination with horses and their tack (it's quite ingenious how there are so many different variations of bridles and saddles with their own specific functions and stuff) so I just played with some nonsensical ideas of how a fantasy creature would be harnessed/driven.
I have an update on my zbrush work. This is done from the live model. I am only using a handful of simple brushes, trying to concentrate on the process and workflow of sculpting itself. It's very similar to clay, just that with zbrush I have to think about buttons and UI and stuff. I'm very glad I got to sculpt with clay before because it makes this way easier.
Incredible stuff, dude!
If you're having trouble getting work, I don't know how I will...
Great sketchbook, very inspiring
Never turn your back on Fear. It should always be in front of you, like a thing that might have to be killed.
Thank you so much for all the comments guys!
I don't have any artwork for this post, as I've been freelancing a lot lately and everything is under NDA, BUT -- I'm so excited with some amazing news!! I just got hired at Riot Games as a concept artist. If you'd like to look at my graduation portfolio, it's here -> http://www.conceptart.org/forums/sho...d.php?t=270369
I can't begin to express how crazy this is, I've been working toward this goal for years and years and I've been in art school for 7. It's literally a dream come true and it's so surreal right now.
really astonishing gallery i love the way you paint with the hard brushes and your graduation portfolio is n°1

This is random, but right after I joined CA at the very end of 2012, the forum went down a few days later and stayed down for a week or two (my first taste of the extended downtimes, haha). By chance I'd followed a link to your blog that someone had posted earlier on, and had it open in another tab, so I started reading and taking notes on your anatomy / figure tutorials, figuring what the hell, I might as well be learning in the meantime. I remember posting a couple comments too. I completely forgot about that until I saw a recent post from you on here, clicked on the blog link in your sig, and went, "Holy crap, I remember this, ahhhhhh!" So, thanks for giving me my first anatomy lessons, indirectly, haha. I still remember that stuff ... ASIS, AIIS, greater trochanter, the wrist being level w/ the trochanter, um ... something about kneeling and the heel sticking out past the butt ...
Congrats on the job! I read your recent entry about starting out w/ graphic design in college before switching to art (I'll do you one better: I've been working as a designer for about 8 years now, before returning to drawing).
ipad painting at Vasquez rocks with some folks from work Which has been super busy, too.
EDIT: HEY! It's Diamandis! So awesome to see you here again on my humble little sketchbook I hope you've been doing well and yeah, I remember you from the blog. I'm so glad that my anatomy ramblings helped, if you ever need help feel free to shoot me a PM or email or something and I'll be up for rambling some more.
Also, I'm going to be at CTN Expo this year again, but this time I'm going with Riot and I'm going to be doing portfolio reviews. So if any of you happen to be in Burbank next weekend, come say hi!
