Tinkered a little more on this one, still lots of love needed:
That is looking soooooo sweet! I'm not really getting the feeling the girl is under the golem though, i see the light from her staff on the underside but something makes me feel like shes infront of it. awesome picture though!
"Simon, believe in yourself. Not in the Simon that you believe in, and not in the Simon that I believe in either. Believe in the Simon who believes in you"
- Kamina, Gurren Lagann
A little, I incorporate scanned textures from analogue mediums, but all my rendering is done in Photoshop.
Love your style. Keep posting plz
So, last night, I dug up this diptych and started rendering:
Finally, earning my NSFW tag back.
@Greip: Yeah, the intent is to keep all that ornamentation. Right now it's in a very ugly duckling stage while I'm sorting out some high level issues with lighting, volumes and composition. This is probably why I set it aside a bit for other work, need to come back to it with a fresh perspective.
A little of both.
Part of it is just pure aesthetics for me, something appealing about using type as texture. But, you hit these little happy accidents like finding an old telegram sent by my Nana. So, the text, "WE MISS YOU. LOVE=IVA." was from that and used a few times. It just made sense, ya know?
It also feels like layering in meaning, even when its random text. It's sorta silly, but you have this gut reaction to words. You instantly start searching for meaning. So, if I just happen to use this newspaper, people will start reading the text and trying to make sense of it. None of which is intended. But, when I see a powerful word like "WAR" pop up on a page, I start thinking of fun things to do with it.
In this case, it just became biographical since he served in the Army. But, I'm thinking about what to do with it that's more political.
Anyway, a little more progress:
BTW, in this I'm using scans from an old book on witchcraft that I found at a used book store and old bank statements.
Thanks for that explanation, it makes a lot of sense Your work stands out for me mostly because that you use so much "analogue" resources and the vivid imagery with all the cultural references (like the Balinese giant drawing).
Also on a sidenote, 5 stars for you. One of the few threads here on CA I check on a regular basis!
the art gods smiled when you were born that warm summer night or was it winter naw just kidding we all know you werent born on this earth. amazing pieces of art in hur.
Check out my sketchbook and comment/crit while you're there =)
Thanks guys, just finished this one. A poor substitute for attending the rally, but that's life. If you want share or print it, you can get the full resolution here:
Holy shit, your rendering is bloody amazing! I love how you mix the textures and patterns into the image. It really gives your work an amazing style.
