let me just say
ive been preparing for my senior show and now that its just days away i find that ups has misplaced my prints i ordered that would eventually be adheared to glass and backlit. so my choices were pretty obvious- drop out and do it next semester even beter than i could do it now... or figure shit out.
im choosing to figure an alternative way of showing my art that i hope will work. its more instillation based with screens and projectors.
it feels like a cop out but you know its all i can do... im ready to start life and get my job. im tired of being in this same small university. i want to see something more... i get antsy when im in one place for too long....
ill do my show and over the next month or so i will be focused completely on getting a job at a video game company (my girlfriend wants me to work at raven softwares.... place is really nice and nice folks work there.)
so life is stress. im not like oh my god life is so stressful lately i can barely take it.... ive come to a realization that life is = to stress.
im going to find a possitive and use it as fuel.
possitive is that i have some twenty images to show and they are pretty good
so while at work ive been able to mindlessly doodle
nothing amazing mostly thoughts and ramblings
kevin- listening to optiganally yours
well i had my senior show and it went pretty good
i thought it was a pretty interesting show. im not really the objective critic though...
so im putting together my portfolio of 3d stuff i learned this semester
only got three or four months of time spent in the 3d art world... i like it.
pretty fun... i want to intigrate the stuff into my 2dstuff.
now im going to be putting together a portfolio of game design stuff. i want it to be solely focused on game concept art. check back soon to see the stuff!
a lot of this work is trying to convert files in maya to zbrush. not as happy with the results .... sometimes the models get ripped by the conversion and
organic modeling in zbrush is easy enough to just do it there.
thanks for the love peet.
as far as rendering yeah i love the work done by wesburt danielc and skureal
i also really like clean lines and crisp work.
im moving toward doing hand illos again and scanning the work in and digital painting on top ala marko djurdjevic but i want to retain the cleanlyness of full digital work.... so im working on resolving this to find a happy medium
so yeah i expect some sort of disjointed feeling in this sketchbook.
like im trying to find my voice in digital art... cuz i am.....lol
its become even harder to find a singular voice since ive started falling in love with zbrush.
so we will see where my art takes me next.
hopefully straight into a job at ravensoftware
listening to rob crow- kill all the humans
got my christmas gift from my woman
the madman gargantua by mike allred signed and numbered!
also got the henry yan book. a lot of the sketches taken right from the book but i was compelled to sketch after reading it.
his style of drawing is so painterly and amazing!
a speedie that came out of hours of goofing around
"hey lets play with liquify!"
"hey lets do a tom scholes idiotapathy flip and mirror!"
lots of dumb stuff that really didnt turn anything out special in this sitting.
got some writing done but thats a different post sometime down the line
well pretty frustrating day didnt get the work i wanted to done. but i got some spare time and invested twenty some odd bucks in artrage 2
i gotta say i like this better than corel painter. i still have to figure out some tricks but like i said i just got it today.
still futsing around with some different methods
I'll reiterate how I love how you draw female heads (but faces/heads in general). I think you're on to something with the last girl's portrait the light color designs in the hair. I wonder how you could develop that style. Don't know about the outline around the lips though. Works in the b&w pic above but sort of calls for attn in the color pic.
Anyways, happy new year!
eon- things to consider. ill play around and try to get the lips right. ive always got complements on how i draw women. i grew up wanting to draw like j scott campbell then falling in love with ashley woods art and then all of the artists here on concept art have influenced me tremendously
anywho sketch pages (digital)
I like your lines and also the variations in your work.
the 3d portrait is cool
this is some early concept sketches done in charcoal for a new web venture im involved in with some alumni here at uww. these are really rough idea sketches but they got the ball rolling
farin- yeah i really liked working in zbrush and everytime i sit down with it i find something new to learn. expect more soon.
appreciate your dropping by my sketchbook... it's a great tip, the confidence bit! obviously you are working very hard and learning a great deal as you go. in your color stuff, if i had to give a crit, i'd say to try and stick to a more monochrome palette first, then work into the more saturated tones later as things play out. Keep going! i will be checking back in!
fellah- always great to hear from ya! ill do some more charchoal drawings. they are really fun to do when you are roughing out a concept.
guggemmaneuver- yeah i could see that being a possiblity (using more monochromatic palletes) thanks for the encouragement. and if you or anyone else has ideas for how i could improve, i really need to hear it.
creature of the day
she is a massive beast who comes out at the last glimps of daylight. she swings her gigantic udders to fling acid milk at foes. normally she wouldnt attack a human except if a human presents a threat to her young.
oh and madman and more
Udder Ears? LOL! She/it could pretty much crush that tiny human with one of those ears. I've always liked Madman's and Allred's designs in general. Never actually read it though. I can see some of Campbell in your faces (shape, eyes, mouth) but your heads are much more three-dimensional than he ever made em. How about a battle scene featuring Udder Ears in action?
i would say its a she.lol
i might do a zbrush sculpt of her
not sure yet
madman is the best. and there is a new serise out that is just great.
here is another new portfolio creature.
eight more creatures to do and im still working on my characters weapons and environments
tonight my friend (the very tallented jedi josh www.myspace.com/mushroomungus) held a drink and draw social event. just a little get together we have every month or two. an excuse to have a few beers and catch up while still drawing cuz we are always drawing. for some reason i draw naked chicks when im drinking an drawing.
i really like these events cuz they are laid back and we get to hear about what the other artists in our group are up to.
