Im currently going through a stage where i dont know whether to go for realism in my work or be drawn towards the more unrealistic style. which would be best for me to develop if i wish to make my art suitable for concept art/ storyboarding??

Noine of the above. Don't worry about style. Focus on learning the basics of image-making as best as you can: composition, drawing, anatomy, value, etc. Push yourself to the limits of your ability, and as a result of that your style will just happen.
Later, when you have already pushed yourself, then you can pick and choose different styles to try. The problem is that if you aim for one particular style now, you will limit your artistic development and won't get to the point that you can choose between multiple styles.
 Also keep in mind that in order to be more employable, a concept artist should have the ability to switch styles depending on the project.

^ What they so eloquently said, but I'll add that a lot of artists see dramatic shifts in their style over time naturally. Nothing is isolated in this kind of growth - the stuff that I gleaned from doing life studies in charcoal has shown up even in my stylized work, and now I'm seeing a shift back to realism again with influence from the shape and color techniques I learned from cartooning.
Now for storyboarding, the "style" can be very simple or more complex so drawing from one style won't cut it. What matters most with storyboarding is more universal, being CLARITY, composition and staging. I don't care how technical or rendered a board is, if it's unclear and not timed well, it's rubbish.
Make your own style. consume both and make new. Matter of fact youm must know bow both to be a concept artist.

John Romita Snr (one of the artists famed for his work on Spiderman) once said that he was not aware he had a style until people started remarking on his style.
styles should develop naturally surely try new things out,
your short comings and hwo you choose to use them will be as much as part of your style as your strengths
work on getting the fundentals down once you got them down you can then experiment or bend the rules.
Look at the work of some of the surrealists Dali for exampe or Escher (not sure if he would be classed as a surrealist)
There is a painting by Dali a woman floating fruit, tigers and bees each of these elements look realistic within themselves once combined they create a sense of surrealism,
master reality first.

im just going to keep going with learning the anatomy and life drawing etc. im only young so il just learn the basics or 'reality' first. Then think about developing later..
