Here's a 6 hour portrait painting from life that I did at Watts Atelier yesterday in class. I'm pretty pleased with out it came out, though I would like to soften a few edges out here and there.
Any comments and critiques are welcome.
Nice structure. Looks like you are making some great progress at school. Rock on!
not bad...his eyes are looking two different directions (is that on purpose?).
Also, there seems to be a fairly monochromatic treatment of the light vs shadows on his head. Pay closer attention to the seperation of temperature within the light vs shadow structure.

the class was in 3 hr blocks with a 1.5 hr break for dinner. i remember laying in the focal eye (the one closer to the viewer) in the first class, so its possible in the second class the models eyes were looking in a different direction and i just didnt catch it.
good call on the warm skin warm shadows. i remember bringing in a lot of the blues and greens from the background into the shadows (you can see under the nose) but it appears i lost it in the later stages.
thanks for the crits
i agree with manley about the shadow colors on his head, but the brush work and structure is just yummy!
Excellent work with oils and brushes, not much to comment, love it!

its really nice, great brush work, as mr manley pointed out, warm and cool could be utilised to greater effect, but its nonetheless very good, and only a 6 hour portrait.
