Always a pleasure to look at your sketchie. Thank you for the demos! :D
Always a pleasure to look at your sketchie. Thank you for the demos! :D
you Sir are one of the biggest inspirations around!
love your work, man. the curvy, dreamy landscapes are beautiful.
also like the characters you repeat in them. the robot with umbrella, hehe.
the painted one with the character up close is especially good.
boobtrees, yes that could sell. nice thumbs mann, I'm still waitin on another one o that painterly style... Maybe a buildin all like that :)
fantastic Building work Tom, any chance of getting Alan Tew to post his sketches? I love looking through his blog. Anyway thanks for sharing!
Hey Tom. I've started listening to Metallic Falcons after watching your vids...which is now my new place to find good bands haha. You should post a little list of the bands you're digging right now!
I love the really dramatic shapes in your more recent graphite environment sketches. Cheers!
really diggin the buildings seņor scholes, some slightly odd uses of scale in them (i.e. palatial architecture used in tight corridors) but it works in a weird way.
keep getting the lead out.
I drew up this paintover a few days back because Tom requested help with drawing feet so I edited the pic and threw in a few extra changes for good measure. Tom and I thought we should share this here to hopefully help some other people too! :)
First up: Tom's Original
Paintover explaination (hopefully you can all read my writing!)
And finally, some thoughts about stances/ weight distribution using one of Tom's sketches.
We hope you find this useful!
David (and Tom)
PS. Feel free to check out my sketchbook too if you have a moment. It doesn't get a lot of love!
awasome....!!! story bord is so good.....exelant stuff ....!! pls visit my thred
beautiful paintings  And those demos and mentoring threads are some of the most helpful on CA. thx
Beautiful enviro sketches, and the newest painting is kick. ass. Very moody. I likes it a lot.
always love seeing your work. more please:)
you should come visit SF one day...
I'm impressed by those pencil sketches. It's not common to see on this forum environments done in traditional media. With just pencil and paper design skills are put to the test :).
Digital art wonderful as always.
Really cool SB man, keep it up! :D
Wow man, amazing improvement in clarity of technique, intriguing experiments in stylization and aesthetics.
Are you working on any projects/portfolio pieces?
Thanks for sharing the wisdom fellas :) i reckon that knight piece could be taken even further - it has good 'classical painting' potential, perhaps if you busied the composition more (more breaking up of the shapes/overlap) and kept pushing it, generally. Do love it how it is though. propz :)
ps... its amazing how subtle those pointers can be to do their thing... noting that one for later!
I second Form about the last painting.
Very nice job, so painterly...
Funny how an art dump can make people overlook the subtelties of every single piece... ("people" including me)
Before it was posted on this page over again and put a lil more focus on, i really hadnt looked at it enough to see what it was i liked (or not) about it.
The sunlight feel in the background is conveyed with much strength, vibrance of color is definitely there too and the stiffness of that swordsman is almost one of those yummy flaws u wouldnt like to see being fixed ever.
Only thing is his left (right for us) arm has something weird going on in term of pronation (?) u dont really get away with, yet im not sure why and it also just might be me...
Anyway i like this piece and you deserve something like an exclusive SB or else for what u are doin as an artist and what u've been doing, sharing, learning and teaching so far, as a member of Ca.org.
oh and 5 stars in case some bunch of retarded kids would start to rate 1 star around the SB section for the sake of having fun...
Awesome stuff, brother!
b...but...y....yo...you are never on MSN!!! 0_0
bestest paintskillz btw.
Hey Tom! Your rock studies kick ass, as usual.
Thanks for the inspiration, it's always a pleasure watching your stuff.
Though they are absolutely great I agree a bit with GreenSock about the last enviros having some kinda a spotlight feeling in it.
Very inspiring sketchbook!
DanielC: Oh chit! I need to send you stuff. Shit shit shit! :O
shamandalie: Hallo and you are very welcome! :) Helping makes me happy.
Josef K.: Awwwwwww hell, thank you kindly!
monotony: Thank you much seņor! Robot with umbrella is something I want to make a short story about...
Mr.Delicious: Hey duder, how's life going?
Victor B: Thank you kindly! Don't think Alan will post here, but he posts just about everything he draws on his blog anyhow :)
BrennanPM: Hehe, Metallic Falcons are great - you try uhm Cocorosie? In the same vein, shares a member or two as well. Lemme think, what am I digging right now? Boards of Canada, Trentemoller, Little Dragon, Ratatat, Blockhead and Hot Chip seem to be in heavy rotation right now. I love me some music. Anyhow, glad you enjoy!
young paddy1: Gracias amigo! Hadn't thought about the odd scale use; just sort of doodling - but that gives me some ideas hehe. Cheers!
DavidCousens: Many many thanks my friend! I owe you one or two.
bharat: Thanks very much my Indian friend!

abiLity: Will do! Thanks.
BludHund: Thanks dude! Can't say I do much personal art besides these thumbnails and other studies these days; work keeps me pretty busy and generally fulfilled. Got to live life sometime too you know? I have ideas and things I'd like to do, but no hurry. Cheers!
Form: Thanks for the crit buddy :) How's Aussieland?
S.M.: Thanks for the analysis and critique :) Sharing, learning and teaching is it's own reward as far as I am concerned :) Cheers!

Are you off to NZ? And without me?
If you are, have fun dood.
nice plane sketches.
Dude dude dude your pencils are the shiznit!!
Your environments are so inspiring. I mean really, it's your worked that pushed me over the edge from just thinking that I should get better at my environments to actually starting drawing and painting some environments!
Amazing! Love the bold shapes, almost cartoony but not. Nice tones and colours too!
Idi0t! Your sketches say so much...with so little!!! Have fun in NZ! Absorb knowledge!
Hehe, no New Zealand for me unfortunately. I'm back in Utah after an extended weekend in L.A.
