NEW STUFF AT BOTTOM
Hello everyone, below are a few sketches that I have drawn on paper. I believe being an active participant on this site will help motivate me as an artist. Please tell me what you think and be as critical as http://conceptart.org/forums/member.php?u=23898
ashrummyou want to be, I have no problems with constructive criticism. Again I hope you guys enjoy my work I hope to keep you guys and gals updated with newer sketches in the future.
Welcome. This is your first time postin huh? I like you rendering. It seems that you have a grasp on what anatomy is. thats good if your a character designer that is the most important thing to know. I myself spent a long time adding alot of motion to my drawings, doing the best i could to bring out the dynamism. I would recommend that you do the same. I usually use a very curvy line of action. this will move your drawings away from static poses. well....how old are you? your on the right path. good luck. talk to you later :bashful:
Hey thanks for the welcome Magnetic, and thanks for the good advice. The static poses has been a huge problem of mine. And to answer your question about my age well we're the same age man well roughly you're about a few months older than me i'll turn 24 on June 13th. Thanks for the crit man i really appreciate it. I looked at your work and it is freakin awesome, I'll look at it closer here in a few mintues and give you a comprehensive post.
Here i'll post some more of my stuff :)
Twin Royal Imperial Guardsmen These guys are inspired from the Star Wars Imperial Guard, Since you never get to see much of them in the movie i thought i'd elaborate on twin characters.
The Twins again
well whadda do ya know, the twins again
evil-self portrait, I pretty much look like that and yes I have hair like that :rendered:
Veesaald Warrior I am actually almost finished 3d modelling this character when it is done i'll let you guys know for sure!
I just finished this one tonight I wanted to pay homage to the Star Wars saga by drawing an authentic Royal Imperial Guardsmen
wow I really like the loose gesture feel towards the top of this page, and also the longer studies towards the bottom. The reflections on the emperor guards helmut is amazing. From your drawings I really see you understand anatomy, please post more work. :}
What up. Im back. ya man im usin maya. i havent ever posted any of my models up here. but im lookin forward to see some of yours. thats great that you posted more drawings. ive been noticing some things with your hands. those are probably the hardest thing to draw but i would suggest you practice practice practice on those. hands are never easy. unless you know them like the back of your own. it as also good to know the relationship between the hand and the wrist. well im off! I have learned from my own studies that once you know the basic formulas of the body anatomically, you can do what ever you want with them..as long as you remain in that formula. talk to you later.
im going to asume ur male cause im seeing a bit of heavy handed nesss in ur work. Go lightly gently where features are gentle like eyes u can go heavy ie a sword. get that thick and thin line look cause ur gentle building up the illustation. pretend ur holding a baby u dont want to drop it.
:) may sound gay but if not maybe a future in scuplture were ur usin a hammer. lol.
maybe draw with a 2h or 4h dont stay there but might help u see values.
u want the whole range working for u not the dark half.
Here a image of a drawing by french artist Ingres - click on it.
great stuff. later.
-Magnet- You are absolutely right about the hands I need to draw lots and lots of hands and feet. I have drawings of hands and feet but nearly not enough thanks for the advice. I actually started working on a hand after reading your suggestions. :rendered:
Darrell Bowman- You are absolutely correct I am male. And on top of that i am heavy handed. You're right I could use quite a few more values. And out of the pencils i do own none of them are light at all. Thanks for the crit It's really appreciated. I adhere to your advice and go for some lighter pencils and ligher values. :rendered:
Thanks fellas I really appreciate you guys taking the time to crit my work. This is really helping me out thanks alot.
ya i start at the feet and work up as opposed to the eye and work outwards.
kinda like archtecture starting at the first floor and movin up to the penthouse.
Taking a little tour in your sb :rendered:
Good start dude, nice pencil work.
I see you got some skilled dudes giving you crits, but if you want one more (not including myself as one of the skilled  ), just let me know.
the royal guard one is my favorite..keep up the good work. I think the line quality on some could be cleaner (ex. the first 2). Its something I need to work on too.
Fellah- hehe very funny Fellah, hey man , give me a crit anytime seriously I would very much appreciate some criticism from you man. Thanks for checkin out my Sb. :rendered:
Ann- you are correct i tend to get messy, with the contours something i need to break away from. Cleaner drawings would help me out a bit, thanks man i appreciate you advice. :rendered:
Hey everyone here's a couple of sketches I just finished:
I guess since my previous drawings lacked any kind of a unique pose I thought i try something new.
Here is a foot study, I got some good advice earlier and thought i'd try my hand a foot.
And here are a couple of hand studies. I desperately need to work on my anatomy so hopefully i'll have enough time do conduct some studies of muscle and bone relationships etc. :rendered:
that perfect !!!
now go back over them or one and take a darker pencil let say hb
or higher if that is a hb u used ...and put ur darks in but dont touch
any area that not a dark.
now after that only pencil lightly in "dark areas" dont pencil in light areas.
maybe a line defining a light area. from now on all ur efforts are for establishing dark or dark grey areas keep ur white clean of crosshatching.
So it darks were after in a drawing. or darkesh. and only a few lines to establish lights.
Darrell Bowman::: Thanks for the encouragement and the great advice I will try to push my darks a tad bit darker and i'll repost the images in a little while. Again thank you for the genuine support. :rendered:
Here are some new anatomy studies I have recently cranked out. I'm really trying to get a better feel for the anatomy so I hope you guys like my progress. I didn't use references for any of these minus the torso study below. I'm really try to train my mind to remember where what goes and there relationships toward one another.
these were some random sketches
I did this a while ago, its a torso study, this one is actually from a reference
just a rough sketch of a male side view
Nice stuff! So keep Žem coming. :)
You definately improved. I have the same advice as Darrel Bowman. Try to achieve more defined highlights/shadows and the figure will look more interesting. I think these last anatomy studies have it so you're on a good way. Keep it up.
yep you got it now
Darrell Bowman:: Thanks for all of your support man I plan attempting to show more value, now that I've gotten a little more comfortable with the figure.
Flaskpost:: Thanks, it is greatly appreciated
Farvus:: I couldn't agree more, this is something i've been bit lazy about, i'll try and work on this in the future.
Thanks everyone for your input it is greatly appreciated!! You guys are really helping my improvement, with your advice, thanks again. :yayca:
your very welcome
have u looked at Andrew Loomis books there free online
Darrell Bowman:: Thanks for the link to loomis Darrell it i discovered some pretty cool techniques.
Here is something i was working on yesterday, Its just a random idea that happend to manifest from my mind. Other than his excessively long neck its not a bad sketch. http://onajii.com/a_sketches/oldman.jpg
you are making great progress....the last one really shows that and the lines are nice too....and yea the neck is a bit long, but you learn from mistakes.
out of your head, not bad....are those goggles around his neck?
Values are light to dark
on a scale from one to ten.
you only have the first five which means light to middle grey.
now u need middle grey to black.
so do with a hb penil a box and do these greys a few times.
press lightly for a light grey press maybe harder for a black.
when u look at a drawin or a black and white photo see if u can
name the greys in it. after a while it second nature.
look at a yellow as a light grey and a tree as a dark grey.
sunshine or light source light greys and no sun darks.
hope this helps u might already know this.
you draw astounding feeling in the eyes of your subjects,,, I don't know how or why,,, very powerful ability,, use it responsibily,, beware of the dark side..... Bye!
Nice scribblings, mister! My advice would be that you work some more on your faces, their muscle/bone structure, etc. From time to time they seem to be a bit off. But your overal anatomy skill is impressive so far. Keep on going!
ann::: Thanks alot i really appreciate your comments :rendered:
jack frost::: to be honest i tried to make it some sort of traditional medallion of some sort but i failed as you mentioned, but you're right they look more like goggles than any decorative symbol.
Darrell::: Whats going on man, thanks for the support it is really appreciated. You are absolutely correct about my rendering. i actually went out and bought a couple of new pencils so I could do some box studies like you mentioned thanks.
Codaromek::: Thanks man i'm glad you like my work! great inspiration.
~Faust~:: Yeah i just have the feeling i need to work on alot of stuff and face bone studies are one of them. I'll post some anatomy stuff here in a little bit.
Here's something i worked on today, I spent a lot of my time shading this drawing. The funny thing about it is I used a pen, which is something i am not used to at all. I used pressure to create the different values tell me what you guys think. The nose is a little out of place and the eyes are a bit buggy, but he's a goblin, and they aren't usually known for there symmetrical good looks.
Goblin Elder (pen ink)
I did this one soon after the first one
goblin portrait (pencil)
