I pay attention in class, I swear.
I pay attention in class, I swear.
Drawing people at the mall. The lady in the middle got up to walk around her table every few minutes, much to my annoyance.
Sat down at one of the student dining halls with the intention of drawing students and ended up drawing a salt shaker for 25 minutes or so.
Trying to place muscles in the proper positions based on how the limb is twisted.
Lecture doodles, including a cow with an abnormally long neck.
Drew some people at the clinic. Not my favourite sketches ever, but I guess being sick doesn't help your artistic abilities.Attachment 1620350
Drew a girl while waiting for my crocodile soup at the campus bar. Crocodile soup is surprisingly average.
Practiced heads a little bit tonight from photos. Took me a while to get into it (I work from right to left).
Lazy quick painting of my mouse. I kept spacing out and using it while I was painting so it was constantly shifting positions. I really struggle with painting bright light too.
In other news, it is my birthday today. Hurrah!
Went to see Wreck-It Ralph last night and drew some people in the cinema while waiting in line. I need to work on being able to draw faster.
This is one of six acrylic paintings I've been working on for my studio class. The idea is to paint a baby from photo reference in a "painterly" style using a wide colour palette to show value. I've been struggling a lot with it and I'm not particularly happy with any painting I've done so far. We're not supposed to refine a lot or use realistic colours, which is bothering me a lot.
Keep up the studies! :) Your lines are rather messy, try to resist putting down so many and try to get what you want to draw down in the fewest lines possible. It'll help you become more accurate in your strokes.
Thanks for the comment Umbravita! Gah, yeah, lines are something people keep telling me to fix. I really need to start focusing on it.
Did a fairly quick (45min-ish?) self-portrait while waiting for my dinner to deliver. One day I'd like to make one that I like enough to use as a profile picture. I have a fairly well-defined jaw and high cheekbones, which I always end up drawing in a way that looks masculine.
Some life drawings I did at work. My duct tape wallet and the computer mouse.
Another self-portrait, WIP. It was originally meant to be a cartoony flat+shading piece and it ended up exploding into something much more complicated. Attachment 1624985
Still plugging away at it. I don't think I made too much progress tonight. Most of the night was spent in a painting-erasing loop.
Haven't been doing much the last few days. Hit a bit of a wall with the self-portrait.
We did some abject photography in class to get us to play around with lighting and composition techniques. I'm sure all of these photos will make actual photographers cringe at the poor quality, but we had a lot of fun finding and constructing things for this project. I think we ended up taking sixty or more photos themed around these "bugs".
Tried to do a speed paint, but probably spent way too long on it for it to be considered "speed".
Picking away at it. I did some flat colours but then I quit without saving like an idiot. Thankfully it wasn't a huge loss.Attachment 1633649
Haven't been doing very much lately besides playing video games. I went down to our school's barn and tried drawing some horses before my fingers froze off. I think I walked away with a very basic understanding of the shapes found in horses.
Then I drew a basket at work full of those trendy rubber bracelets everyone and their mother owns. I don't think the bracelets read very well.
Doing a desk still life. This is a small part of it. I'm going to make an effort to keep everything in place for the next few days, as I have a pretty nice controlled environment going on right now regarding lighting.
Got some sketching done! Some Hampton gestures, some university food court creeping, and some skeletons from the anatomy lab. I really should get a sketchbook that actually fits my scanner.
And then here's something I drew a while back and forgot about.
Some drawings from reference. Especially proud of the tire iron girl on the left and I`m going to try to develop her further.Attachment 1642554
Did some other stuff I can`t be bothered to scan. Imagine a water bottle still life and a few throwaway gestures.
Grah! Hands and expression could use some work, but I like it so far.
