his thumb, where the bridge is, looks really really nice. That's the kind of richness you should go for with the rest of the giant. You put a nice reflected light on the edges, and that can be everywhere (darker with distance, but still there). Your tones in the river look really nice, I love the subtle ripples in the light on the bottom. You're approaching photo realism in some places, but the metal isn't matching that- I'd paint over the trees a little bit if you need to, they stand out as too different from the rest of the painting. The only other thing I think you're missing is deeper shadows on the city. They still look a bit pasted on, just throw an overlay on there and bring in the blues from underneath the giant. Oh, and your shadows under the trees look really nice, cool diffuse. It's come a long way, you're almost done!
You've come a long way. Great to see the hard work paying off.
i've worked hard on this ,but there's still so much to do that i doubt i will have time to finish that piece...
what about the metal? and the trees?
can you tell me whats wrong so that i can fix it.
The trees just look too real in comparison with everything else. if you just lightly brushed over them to make it look more painterly, it will blend in more with the rest of the pic. You need a little reflected light on the bottom of the metal on the giant, coming from the grass. it shouldn't go completely dark in shadow, you should see a faint outline of a grey green.
i know how you feel about so much to do. I feel like I haven't stopped working on mine for a month and yet theres still so much left! Good luck!
it's all right about the green radiosity ,i've planned to do that at the last moment
i thought there was a problem with the rendering of the metal.
i agree on the trees anyway...
can someone provide the exact hour/time limit?
search central standard time in google, it will show you the supposed time and date...
ok then ,i suppose central time refers to the center of the universe:USA...
yeah... it has always been like that... boohoo... anyway, good luck with your piece...
thanks i'm just finishing it and theres still a lot to do!
finished version on top of the page
hope you will enjoy it
tweaked a bit
it was ok in the middle of the night but this morning it appeared so dark
so it's fixed now
take care all.
(mhhh ...feels strange talking to myself:))
Looks good! Good job establishing an atmosphere without going overboard.
thanks,i always try to go for a middlepoint between a painting and a photo...
i want to thank all the people here that took the time to criticise and correct my attempt and helped me to make it better!
this was my first challenge ever and anyway ,i'm only doing illustrations for a couple of months now ;so i still have a lot to learn (don't we all?:)
i was doing 3D before for a living but it's not fun anymore...
...while painting is great!!
take care everyone and peace!
up,for showing ,the result i wanted to achieve before the deadline...
That's really good. I was planning on doing the same as now I can see loads more wrong with mine. Time is a great thing if you have it in abundance - good that you got just as you wanted.
well it's not exactly what i wanted;) there would be a lot to fix ,like more houses on the robots and construction sites, but i feel it's way better now...
did the test succeeded?;)
whoa blast from the past! lol :) I saw your pic on daily deviations though, so a congrats is in order!
yes someone dig up this old thread, didn't won this contest but yes the daily deviation made my day, first time I got one btw, also this giant made it's way to exposť 8 as well, felt so proud about this!
don't forget to take a look at my newer art too:
