Gshaw's Sketchy McBook
Hey my first time posting here on CA and im pretty excited, i feel like this is the right place for me to post some of my work and get really well thought out critiques to develop my skills. so tell me what you think, and I'll try to make new posts as much as i can. I'm still getting used to working with my tablet as well, so hopefully ill have some photoshop work soon. In the meantime, i just gathered a good amount of recent sketchbook work to post on here so you guys can see where im starting at! See you around the forums!
that bunny is freaking sweet.
niice anatomy studies.
KEEP DOING THOSE HEY
Just some new figure studies, getting porportions correct, and stances. still need to work on lines and shading, but these weren't supposed to take long, did each in about 5 minutes or so.
keep up the good work man. What size paper are you drawing on? I would say maybe drawing on somthing 9''/11'' would be nice and keep your line loose. Cheers!
So lately ive just been working on my life studies and figures. thats where i struggle the most. ive been seeing improvement lately and i plan on continuing.
Ive been reading from Bridgmans so thats where ive been getting some basis for these studies, trying to find a style / find my line work that suits me. give me some feedback on anatomy / proportions. im not really too worried about shading just yet. want to make sure im getting the shapes down first.
More figure study! no way!... oh and i just found Pose Maniacs...i think im in love with a website.
also, going to start working on faces to develop some characters and emotions soon!
Got Vilppu's Drawing Manual. working out of that. going to post some speed sketches later today... critiques are always welcomed :D
Head positioning and setup practice.
Nice! I can see that your figure work is improving with your studies -- great stuff! I especially like your speed sketches, they have a nice fluidity to them, which is important in creating dynamic poses that don't look stiff.
What would help you a lot would be work with structure and proportion. Right now your heads look a little big, and the legs look a little short. This will iron itself out as you keep working from life, but in addition to that it'd help to do more anatomy studies on your own. Loomis is always a big help, in terms of constructing the figure and learning correct proportions. I think his books are posted somewhere on this site.
Keep it up! You're doing great so far! :D
Just a quick torso study...20 mins or so, tried to take my time for smoother line work.
nice cross contour just rememmber to carry the lines all the way through the form.
hey man, thanks for swinging by the sketch thread. ok, c&c trade off here
i would say then main thing that is happening here is you are studying what you see...not why the the things you see are the way they are... sounds wierd but it works
i learned anatomy as i learned to model, so i kind of do both in the same fashion and step by step process. first when learning to draw people, i decided to say, fuck anatomy, now people before you get pissy with that statement here me out. first start with proportions. study just drawings of proportions for a good couple months. what i do is just put circles on the paper, and connect them with lines, boom, there is a stick figure. next go to volumes. overlapping forms, turn thos lines into cylinders and such. after that rythm, start putting the body in motion, those flour sack studies up there...are not what vilpu was talking about. you have to have the form down before you can understand why the lines are where they are. now that we have proportion form and rythm, you can start putting on the sub forms, the muscles and features. this all takes a while, but trust me, it will make everthing very strong in the end.
i hope this helps out, pm me or pop by my book if anything needs clarified or you want to call me a dick, depending on how you take crits :D
keep trucking, you have shown great improvements from the first to last post here
thanks for the support and the crits. trying to update everyday...just progressing as much as i can.
