Very cool sketchbook to look at. Studies are indeed important!
Keep having fun!
Man I could look at those moleskins all day long
Men... Your awesome! Bravo!
great sketchbook, very inspiring
Link Click on Illust at the top and pick a category. I like it.
Nemome: The anti aliasing on the lines are actually one of the things I like about MSPaint ;p. It gives it a very unique look, extremely digital and not something you can duplicate outside of a computer.
Ixallus: Yeap, black hair is the best!
vices: You've inspired me to do some studies too :) so thanks!
Samszym: Yep, studies are how you get better faster.
kingkostas: Thanks kingkostas, your work is also great!
Lyno: I try to vary my drawings up to keep it interesting as you will see in this post~
GEB: 2 more moleskins coming up!
Lucarky: Thank you!
jablar: Thanks! And I will keep on trying!
Drow Ranger from dota 2.
I really really get bored of having to draw the grass, rocks, background and stuff. But I persevere!
If you click on this one it'll bring you to an ultra super crazy high res scan, if you care to see...
In another random unrelated note, imgur is the best image hosting site around nowadays.
Anime coming up! I've discovered that anime is extremely easy to draw... Haven't really done any anime studies though, maybe I should...
I wanted to try to finish something fully rendered from imagination because I haven't done one in a while
Studies of clothing
Studies in pencil:
So, I never draw graphic stuff like this, but I do like drawing tattoos and clothing designs and whatnot a lot, so I think it's good practice try my hand and this stuff, it's pretty fun too
Wanted to just loosen up and do some quick stuff:
Until next time! CATCH YOU ON THE FLIP SIDE YO'
wow, great update! I totally love those pencils!:D
omg, the last one! Brilliant
Oh wow all of your work is simply incredible o_O
Axelga2112: Did you mean the last drawing or the last post? I think its funny how some people like some drawings, and other people like other drawings. The last drawing was just a quick sketch I was debating posting it... ;o
Morningtea: Thank you!
V3T: Thanks, more in coming!
In this post I'll write approximately how long each picture takes me just for your information! All times are in 'ish' times.
One of the big advantages of getting better at art is that you can draw/paint A LOT faster. The other advantage is you produce fewer bad drawings (percentage wise). You'll still churn out 'meh' drawings all the time, but because you only spend two or three hours on them, you can just throw them away and chalk them up to the learning experience.
3.5 hours-ish: Digital Study
5.5 hours: A master study of Sargent, haven't done one in a while, so I thought I would.
1 hour: I haven't done any watercolor painting in a bit, either.
30 mins I guess... Life studies! In pen!
11 hours: Someone asked before why pencil isn't seen as much anymore. The reason is because it takes 2-3x longer to draw a pencil drawing like this as opposed to a fully coloured digital illustration.
6 hours: Pen! People don't seem to like my pen drawings as much as my other stuff, but I like them :(. Also, it's not just pencil that takes a long time, all non-digital mediums take much longer than digital
1.5 hours: MS Paint and a a bit of photoshop.
1.5 hours: MS Paint + photoshop again, speeedy drawings! MSPaint is perfect for speed.
5 hours: Haven't done a black and white drawing in digital in so long. And, my god, it has become so easy. Especially compared to coloured illustrations or drawing in pen or pencil...
1.5 hours: Random digital speedpaint
oh you sexy sexy man :O
Beautiful stuff as always, can't wait to see your next update. How big is your moleskin, where you draw all these amazing illustrations.?
Lordy, nothing to say to crit on any fronts. Not just digital but traditional is great
great!!! hehe love that chibi char :)
Fantastic stuff as always, I especially enjoy your traditional stuff!
Would you mind sharing some in-progress pages when you work on another sketchbook drawing? I'd love to see the development.
yeah, I meant the last painting. I see that it's quick, but the background, light and mood is perfect in it. The girl deserves a face though.Quote:

I'm always pumped to look at your work ^^ you don't need to feel any pressure or anything because as was mentioned, even the ones you don't like look hot
Meh for you is still grade A eye candy~
After you mentioned MSPaint is almost uniquely digital those pieces started to look more appealing.. go figure
Who is that artist you linked to? His works look perfect lol
This SB is becoming one of may favs here. It's like a kick in the balls and a kick in the ass all at once. It shows me how far I have to go(how crap I am now), but inspires me to go for it. So thanks for that, also thanks for giving back with tuts and tips and all that good shit! Awesome.
love your stuff man ^^
Really inspriration work. I love the girl portrait and nude study. It loose but defines nice structure and shape. Did u work in company ?
Geez this is really amazing. Every single pic is amazing.
this shit is crazy, I can't even begin to grasp this stuff, it's just beyond me. How the fff do you balance values like that??? crazy skills mate.
dude those moleskins are beyond the limits of my imagination!!! i just have a question about the material...I read your previous posts about how you approach one of your moleskin illustrations (starting from corner down) but I was wondering how you get those dark darks without indenting the paper? what kind of moleskin is it? are they thick? because the ones i got are thin and they get ruined with graphite
Great variation in studies and mediums. Very inspiring work, keep it up. Do watch those proportions though, don't get into the trap of just rendering ;).
PS: I like your pen stuff, it must be less forgiving than pencil.
Holy crap those pencils are insane, have to link this thread for inspiration
Been a while :|
I do read your comments as they come up, so thanks everyone!
Othrandir: My Moleskine is the 8.5" by 5.5", so it unfolds to the same size as your standard letter paper. As for where I draw. I actually do all my moleskine drawings away from home (and distractions). I always go to Burger King or McDonalds and literally sit there for sometimes 10 hours straight drawing. I do my digital drawings on a really crappy 6 year old laptop sitting in my room, with a horribly small screen, but I love it.
JFierce: Thanks, I like to be good at different art types, it forces you to learn more when you try different mediums because each medium is good at different types of things.
kingkostas: Thanks, that was drawn from life actually!
GEB: Updates are slow on this front, but I hope this one is good as well.
LastGen: In process moleskines, hmmmmm. That would be pretty cool. Stopping every 10 mins to scan the page would definitely put a damper on my workflow though :/, but I really would like to try it, so I might do one......
Axelga2112: Thanks, and yeah, I actually tried to add a face, but I failed many many MANY times and eventually gave up.
vices: Art is definitely subjective, some images you look at and you instantly really like for some reason, and other things you won't even bother to glance at. I actually had the exact same reaction to Zhuzhu's mspaint sketches. I looked at them and was like - not my cup of tea - even though I absolutely love his stuff. But after looking at more of them I appreciated them in an entirely different way.
That link I posted, he's an illustrator I found while browsing some Japanese artist sites. His work is definitely cool and sexy so I thought I'd share. Unfortunately I don't have a lot more. I don't like manga or anime at all so I don't follow it, However I do really like a lot of anime illustrations and I really like anime character designs (weird I know). Here are two things I've looked into that I like Google: Shigeki Maeshima Look at that sexy shiet! I also like the designs quite a bit from Google: Persona 4
I STRaY I: Thanks, if I can motivate people by posting art, I think that in itself is a good reason to post! Just keep at it and you'll be better than you can imagine, doesn't matter how long the journey takes, just don't quit!
kimtan123: Thank you, I do not work in a company where I do art. I actually started my own software company a few years ago after I graduated, so I'm doing a lot of work there. I am the lead programmer along with my employees, but I also do sales which I quite enjoy.
Perhaps I should let people know who I am in real life. I don't like existing on the internet which is why I'm so obscure and hard to find. But, this is me (linkedin). As I mentioned, I graduated about 3 years ago with a BSc in computer stuff and I'm the Chief Software Architect (self appointed title, hah) at my company.
Mikael Eson: Maybe not every single one, but thanks!
Setherial: I think I still need to work on my values a bit, I'm really afraid of white actually. I need practice in the extreme value ranges.
SarSengo: I do use the thicker paper moleskine. I know that moleskine makes two kinds, the thick paper one and the thin. I don't like the thin ones as much, so perhaps that is what you have? Also getting darks I think depends more on how you draw than the paper. To get the darks you just need to make sure to fill in the entire area in a single tone, and fill it in carefully, millimeter by millimeter and not fill in big areas quickly. One advice I can give is to draw smaller so you don't have to fill in a 2 inch by 2 inch dark area, but can instead fill in a smaller area.
DanijelC: Haha, you are correct. My proportions are absolutely horrible. I try to make my initial drawing correct, but it's only after I render it that I notice the GLARINGLY OBVIOUS errors, and it's either erase the whole thing and redo it or just say fuck it. I choose the latter :p. I wonder how I can fix it... I'm not sure, probably just more practice?
will123will: Glad you enjoy!
A girl, in color. I wanted to draw a girl straightforwardly, no complicated environment or lighting. Just local values.
A pen drawing. Pilot makes the best pens, this is a gel pen, takes so long to fill in areas.
Robo spaceman. Drawn in pen without an underdrawing first, living on the edge!
Super sketchy, Sometimes I do stuff like this, though not very often.
I want to draw more environments, this is from life, in pen. It's a church.
Sometimes the houses in Vancouver look pretty cool, this one was one of them! In pen, the same day as the church drawing!
Wanted to render out an interior environment in pencil, I hardly ever do that.
Book of faces. Contrary to popular belief I feel I still need a lot of work on my faces. So practice!
Just one of them moleskines.
More face practice. Practice even if you think you're good enough.
Draw through the form! Draw everything as if it's see through, I think it's good practice as well and is something everyone should do. Notice her arm overlaps her hips and yet I still drew her hips behind her arm. It's not like that in real life, obviously, but when you're drawing you should draw it like that.
More studies, of Minah from Girl's Day, my newest obsession girl >_>
So I browsed the net for an hour or two and downloaded a whole bunch of nice images of environments and told myself I was gonna draw all of them. I ended up doing one. You know how it is...
This was suppose to be a bright and sunny ride through the sky on her dragon. But I can't draw bright and friendly so this is what it turned into.
Some actual MMA studies, I said I was going to do some. I did! In MSPaint. PAINT = best!
Wanted to do a drawing with a limited value range. This resulted.
Mixed media marker + pencil. If you put down a layer of marker, you can actually render tone and value on top of it. Looks pretty cool.
Same mixed media technique.
I do lots of studies. You should too, even if you're a professional already.
And a digital color study.
Hopefully I won't be gone as long this time, big update though so hope you enjoyed!
Great as usual mate!!! Love the variety. Its cool to hear that you have a programming background. I am also a lot into programming so i hope i can mix these like you. Do you feel that programming has less fundamentals than art and so its a little easier to learn or not? I am mostly using java because i find it a great tool to easily learn object oriented programming.
Lets keep up mate :D!!!
Loving it all. From the traditional pen and pencil stuff to the digital stuff, it all looks very solid. I've been thinking I should do more pencil stuff myself lately and seeing your awesome pieces, makes me want to do it even more. Keep it up :)
Oh amazing stuff as usual, it's a real pleasure to see your moleskine work and very inspirational, thanks for sharing ! :)
