hey dude. looks like the mech stuff is starting to come a little more naturally now. Seems like you're having some problems covering the shadow areas; try a brush pen.
also: are you thinking about going to fanime? I was invited by a friend but I don't think I'd go unless I had sketch buddies.
Lake dude. the funny part is i have a brush pen but i always forget about it. i found that mechs are a lot easier when i have a point of reference and know a bit about how they're constructed. winging the design usually ends up in disaster, specially when it comes to the more complicated ones.
here's some naked ladies. figure drawing from today
mostly 5/10min i think there's one 20
as you might notice. i figured out i have no idea how to draw necks.
here's a mini update before i head out.
threw some color on that jetplane. will develop further tomorrow
That jetplane is cool, push the contrast a bit more, especially saturationwise, maybe add some sunlight on the plane? Play around with layer modes, color dodge is great for some lighting enhancement, just overcome your shyness and experiment! :D
algenpfleger yea man i hear where you're coming from. i'll definitely have to give it a go. think i'm going to do some vehicles from reference later and see where that takes me.
figure drawings from today.
did alright. still suck at necks. ><
love the designs dude!! great studies as well..
thanks for posting in my sb! theres some new updates if your interested
Reject-D thanks man.
some sb pages. just screwin around. some ref, some not
some pages from the sketchgroup in SF.
spacehips and stuff. Need to stir up the mix a bit now. they're really starting to look the same.
also need to figure out a good rendering style so i can start digitizing them.
I love your Mech.
:mittenbop: :mittenbop: :mittenbop: Sketchbook:mittenbop: :mittenbop: :mittenbop:
lulz.... did you use their scanner to toss these up?
how was the sleepover?
Great tech sketches. Some real goodies here and there!
humanNature6115 thanks man
Lake actually i scanned them when i got back to my place. we ended up staying up till 2:30 doodling and such. then i took the train back at 9am. pretty good times.
Hive_minD Yeah man! Thanks for stoppin by. hopefuly i can actually figure out what to do with the good stuff.
figure drawings from today
and a work doodle w/ a standard sharpie that was just layin around.
Your figures are improving sir. Really like that first one of the latest batch. I really like one of those ships too and next time I see you I will point to it but it's too hard to explain which one via text :P
nonie yeah i can see how describing one of those ships would be rather difficult. Looking through that anatomy book helped, even if only on the basic level. I'll have to dig into it deeper and really figure out how lots of stuff is put together. Right now i'm still making up 80-90% of the anatomy out of my head, which i'm sure isn't helping my accuracy at all.
moftah thanks :rocker:
here's a page or scribbles (need to find a better pen that doesn't bleed through pages :wtf: )
also a little more work on that jetplane. still not happy with the overall composition, but it's at least a little better from where it was.
I like where the jet piece is heading, it has a good defined direction from the other version further up the page. Nice gestures drawings, those are always fun. Keep it up!
AA-ron thanks man
i'm calling the plane done. kinda getting sick of it
here's a scan of some ship doodles too. just foolin around at work
not much to show today. i'll have more tomorrow i think...
whoah. those ships are totally dominating! they're amazing! your people are coming along really well also. keep it up!
Ignominious hey thanks man. yea i probably work on the tech shit more than i should. but it's fun. and i like what's fun
more tech shit. i noticed i'm sticking to the same perspective.
time to try and get myself outta that habit!
damn dude just damn, that plane is so much better than when i looked last time, really loving how you enhanced the contrast. the figures are great too, and i just love all the spaceship and tech stuff. keep that shit up man it's awesome!
Great work man. I like your marker drawings in your sketchbook the best. Keep it up dude!
Those are some interesting ship designs. Personally, I think itd be badass to see your best and most refined ships all together in a hanger painting.... :D
algenpfleger thanks man. yea i'm really trying to figure this tech stuff out.
eXplosiveLimes thanks. will do!
AA-ron that's an awesome idea. once i get better at environments i'll definitely give it a spin
here's a mini update. spending all my time right now learning Flash for work so i don't have much time to draw (SUCKS)
some environment doodles, meh.
more of the same.
REF? WHAT'S THAT? PSSSSFT
here's another page of quick enviros.
i'm trying to spend no more than 10-15mins on them.
yet again not using ref. some read ok. some don't read at all. still working on that...
sidenote: if you're trying to learn Actionscript3.0 it can get rather complicated. just keep that in mind
yup. the obelisk was exploring lava caves today.
still no color, seeing if i can accurately convey my ideas in b/w first.
interesting experiment, really trying to think about light sources.
still don't think i've quite gotten it down yet.
here's some figure drawings from today.
ranging from 2min to 20min.
still need to work on lighting and proportions
doodles while chattin w/ people.
i dunno. i guess i'm getting somewhere.
boy did you miss out on a fun weekend. Spent 90% of the time drawing in SF.
Awesome times, good company, and a Sean Barber book signing. so in case you weren't aware, go pick up his book NOW it's just that good.
here's the spoils---
1-4: figure drawings 5min gesture to 20min poses
5-6: sketches from the weekend, train doodles and just screwing around
7-10: new story i'm working on, it's about love, and robots.
enjoy, thanks for stopping by.
here's some thumbs from today.
workin out a forest environment. beginning stages
ref used: Redwood Forest, Olympic forest, Yosemite
still trying to get that whole environment depth perspective thing to behave right. its funky.
