In the 1980ís, Charles was part of a creative hub that gathered at Manhattan Comics and Cards, formerly Backdate Magazine, one of NYCís first comic book shops, located in the historic Chelsea Hotel. Artists would gather regularly, for brainstorming sessions, talking about comics, movies and art, and generating new ideas.
Charles returned to sequential arts in 2007, after years of running NYC nightclubs and serving in the military, post 9/11. He continues to serve in the Air Force Reserves. After intensive study at The Joe Kubert School, he returned to the Art Students League and began to build his studio. He set up Blue Hive Studio, in Harlem, to develop a platform for cartoonists, and started to implement his long-term goal, from the 1980ís model, based on his personal experience of a community of comic book artists working together. In that spirit, with the help of the people on this page, and many other supporters, he has developed the Dare2Draw network.
